TIGERS EYE THEIR SPOT IN DISTRICTS
NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield clawed their way past Cornerstone Christian with a solid 6-1 win in Thursday’s Sectional Finals. Parker Dobson was nearly untouchable, allowing just one hit and one run across a full seven innings, even while handing out three free passes.
The Tigers pounced early, lighting up the scoreboard in the first inning. After some strategic moves and a groundout from Dobson, they notched two quick runs to set the tone.
They didn’t let up, tacking on another run in the third when Dobson ripped a single.
On the flip side, Matt Lindic shouldered the loss for Cornerstone Christian. He labored through five innings, giving up three runs, but only one was earned. He managed to strike out four but got a bit generous with four walks.
The Tigers’ bats were hot, with Cooper Ensley and Blake Jeffries each snagging two hits. Contributions came from all over the lineup: Dobson, Alec Fusco, Jack Plant, and Jeffries each knocked in a run. Kolten Ruark was the master of patience, working his way on base with four walks, showcasing Springfield’s keen eye at the plate. They kept it clean in the field, too, flawless without a single error, with Fusco handling the most chances.
For Cornerstone, Lindic pushed across their lone run, going 1-for-2 at the dish.
Springfield is now gearing up to face Dalton in the District Semifinals. The showdown’s set for Cene Park this Tuesday, with the first pitch slated for 5:00 PM.
