TIGERS FIND LAST MINUTE MAGIC
NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield knows how to bring playoff drama, and their second-round clash this season kept that reputation alive. With a gritty Toronto squad in town, the Tigers came through in clutch fashion, sealing a 29-28 nail-biter to keep their playoff run alive.
Toronto struck first in the game, with Zeb Kinsey punching in a 1-yard TD late in the first quarter to give the Red Knights a 7-0 lead. In the second quarter, Dante Gentile got the Tigers on the board with a 5-yard touchdown run, tying it up at 7-7. Toronto responded with Kinsey breaking through again for an 18-yard touchdown dash, sending Toronto into halftime up 14-7.
Springfield kept fighting in the third, with Gentile finding the end zone once more on a 4-yard run to even things at 14. The fourth quarter saw a back-and-forth battle, starting with Kinsey’s third score—a 1-yard TD that pushed Toronto ahead 21-14. Not backing down, Brayden Baird hit Carson Cunningham for a 54-yard touchdown bomb, tying it up again at 21-21. With just over two minutes left, Kinsey put Toronto back on top with another 1-yard rush, making it 28-21.
But the Tigers had one last drive in them. With just 35 seconds left, Baird found Aiden Appel on a clutch 4-yard TD pass and then kept it himself for the 2-point conversion, sealing Springfield’s 29-28 victory.
