TIGERS GO OUT TOGETHER

DAYTON OH- Springfield and Toledo Christian were both making their first trips to a state tournament in girls basketball.  As is the reality of sports, only one team could keep their historic run going.  The Eagles slowly but surely built up a dominant lead and eventually flew their way to a 57-29 victory.  The turning point was the second quarter. After both teams had moments of nerves in the first, ending in a 12-5 lead for the Eagles. But the second quarter Toledo Christian doubled their score while holding the Tigers to three points in the frame. A 24-8 halftime lead would give the Eagles all the momentum they needed.

Jacey Mullen ended her career as a Tiger by being the only player in the game to finish with a double double. She finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Jameka Brungard chipped in 8 points for Springfield.

Springfield ends their historic season with a record of 24-4.  They have won 45 games in the first two seasons under coach John Matisi and look to continue that trend in the 2023-2024 season.
