TIGERS HOLD ON TO UPSET CRESTVIEW

COLUMBIANA OH-  Springfield weathered a push by Crestview in the seventh inning where they coughed up four runs, but the Tigers still won 9-5 on Wednesday securing a sectional title. Matthew Lindsay and Jesse McKee powered the big inning with RBIs.

Springfield got on the board in the second inning when Joey Becher grounded out, scoring one run.

Springfield notched four runs in the sixth inning. Their offense in the inning came from a single by Ethan Mannion, by AJ Stallsmith, and an error on a ball put in play by Braden Butler.

Butler was the winning pitcher for Springfield. Butler went six and a third innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out four. Stallsmith threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Sam Campbell took the loss for Crestview. The bulldog went three and a third innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking zero.

Stallsmith went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Tigers in hits.

Carter Blakeman led Crestview with two hits in three at bats.

Springfield will advance to the district semifinals in the Niles bracket. The Tigers are paired with third seeded Columbiana. First pitch from Waddell Park on  Monday at 4:30.
