TIGERS JUMP AHEAD OF WATERLOO
NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio –
Three Tigers scored at least 15 points to help Springfield win their fourth straight, 81-53 over the visiting Waterloo Vikings.
The Tigers (11-3) jumped out of the gates hot and had the Vikings (7-3) on their heels from the start. After Springfield got out to a quick 10-point lead, Waterloo head coach Jason Wise took a timeout to try and regroup his team.
For the moment, Wise’s timeout worked, and the Vikings were able to close the gap to as little as 2 but would end the first quarter trailing 16-9.
A strong 20–point burst from Springfield led by Adam Wharry’s 7 second quarter points was enough to put the Tigers ahead by 12 going into the half.
The second half was a mirror image of the first. Each time Waterloo would close the gap, Springfield would explode offensively and increase their lead. With their win tonight, the Tigers improve to 8-1 in MVAC conference play.
LEADING SCORERS:
Springfield
RJ Smith – 20 points
Alex Rothwell – 17 points
Adam Wharry – 15 points
Waterloo
