TOY BREAKS STOLEN BASE RECORD IN SALEM WIN

MINERVA OH- In the bottom of the 6th inning with one out Channing Toy was hit by a pitch. She stole second & then Lauryn Barton laid down a sac bunt & darn near beat it out. Chase Toy delivered an rbi single plating her sister from third for a key insurance run. Chase stole second on the first pitch giving her 26 on the season. Two pitches later she swiped third base breaking the single season stolen base record held by Reagan Meals. Chase has now stolen 27 bases this season. Congrats to the stolen base Queen – you are one heck of an athlete!

Despite 5 Salem hits in the game they were still able to steal 9 bases in 9 attempts. Each of Salem’s four runs they scored, stole a base on their eventual way to the plate. In contrast the Lions didn’t steal any bases & were caught stealing in both attempts. Other thief’s included Lauryn Barton (2), Mack Zumbar (2), Channing Toy & Emilee Lewis.

Lauryn Barton had a bunt single & scored two of the 4 Salem runs. Such impressive hustle when with two outs Mack Zumbar blooped a single over the 1st baseman’s head & Lauryn took off from second  without hesitation & scored. Mack also doubled in the game with 2 RBI. Chase Toy had two hits & walked. Mack Zumbar & Chase Toy extended their hitting streaks to 10 games. Sophie Maniscalco had an RBI. Kaylee Johnson had a sac bunt as Bella Brant reached base twice including getting hit by a pitch, a stat she leads in annually. Sareny Wang scored a run as a pinch runner.

Morgane Blaine pitched a complete game to pickup the win. She struck out six while walking just two on 99 total pitches. She carried a shutout into the 7th when the Lions attempted to rally before Ice Ice Blainey shut the door making all three outs. She struck out two in the inning & tagged out a runner caught in a “pickle” trying to steal.

Catcher Channing Toy was on point throwing out two runners trying to steal thwarting any comeback. Morgane Blaine assisted in 5 outs defensively including a double play on a line drive back to her in the circle. Mack Zumbar made an amazing diving catch on a line drive towards the 3-4 hole in the 5th inning.

Tomorrow is senior night vs Beaver Local at Southeast.
