UNITED BREAKS OUT THE BROOMS ON THE BEARS

LEETONIA OH— United made it a clean sweep on Monday, rolling through both games of a doubleheader against Leetonia with 18-5 and 14-1 wins. Between big innings, aggressive base running, and patient approaches at the plate, the Golden Eagles made sure the Bears never had a shot.

Game 1: United 18, Leetonia 5

United wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, dropping four runs in the first on a mix of walks and a two-run single from Callie Koons. They blew it wide open in the second, scoring seven more runs on just two hits, taking full advantage of free passes and a Leetonia miscue to push the lead to double digits.

The Eagles were relentless at the plate, drawing 15 walks in total and swiping eight bags to keep constant pressure on. Koons drove in three runs to lead the way, while Grace Coffee, Chloe Angelo, Miley Pitts, and Allyson Lacey all chipped in with base hits.

In the circle, Payten Kekel didn’t give up a hit over three innings but worked around nine walks, striking out three and keeping the Bears mostly off balance.

Leetonia scratched across a few runs via walks and contact, but couldn’t string anything together against the United arms.

Game 2: United 14, Leetonia 1

The nightcap was more of the same. United exploded for eight runs in the first inning, mixing timely hits with walks and Leetonia errors. Ella Mobley was the spark this time, driving in four runs—including a two-RBI single in the third.

Jillian Dietrich took the ball and didn’t mess around, giving up just two hits and no earned runs over four innings while striking out eight. Brittany Miller went 2-for-2 at the plate and picked up a couple RBI, while Mobley and Pitts each worked a pair of walks to keep the line moving.

United turned a double play in the win and showed off more of that aggressive style on the basepaths and in the box.

Leetonia got a couple of knocks from Payton Gray and Lewis, but couldn’t slow down the United offense that had their foot on the gas all evening. Next up, United heads to Columbiana on Thursday to keep the momentum rolling.
