UNITED GETS AFTER CLIPPER PITCHING EARLY, STALLS COLUMBIANA

HANOVERTON, OH-Columbiana (7-8, 5-4 EOAC) was defeated by United 7-2 on Monday afternoon in Hanoverton.  Ryan Fahs (3-2) took the loss on the mound for the Clippers.  Fahs pitched 3 innings giving up 7 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 4.  Matt Mazei pitched 3 scoreless frames to close out the game giving up 0 hits and striking out 3.

Columbiana took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Logan Hoschar scored on an error of an Erik Hopfenziz ground ball.  United would tie the game up in the bottom frame but Columbiana quickly responded with a run in the second when Wayne Davis scored on a wild pitch.  United took the lead for good in the third with six runs in the inning.  After United tied the game two Clipper errors and three consecutive hits by the Eagles doomed Columbiana as United took a 7-2 lead they did not relinquish.

Offensively, the Clippers had five hits including two by Seth Ross.  Evan Kenneally doubled for Columbiana while Fahs and Hoschar each also singled.  Hoschar’s single was his first varsity hit.

Columbiana is back in action today when the Eagles come to Legion Field.  Game time is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
