UNITED GETS WALKED OFF BY ALLIANCE
ALLIANCE OH- United let one slip away Monday, falling 5-4 to Alliance on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh.
United was cruising with a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, but Alliance clawed back. A pair of doubles and an error helped the Aviators tie it up at four. Then in the seventh, a single to left sealed it for Alliance.
United’s big inning came in the fifth when Callie Koons doubled home a run, Chloe Angelo added an RBI single, and Grace Coffee ripped a two-run double to build what looked like a comfortable lead.
Jillian Dietrich started in the circle for United, going five innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits. Payten Kekel came in for relief but took the tough-luck loss after Alliance pushed the winning run across.
At the plate, Coffee led United with two RBIs, while Angelo had a solid day with a pair of hits. United’s defense also turned a double play to help stay in it.
For Alliance, their offense was sparked late, and they leaned on strong relief work to keep United off the board after the fifth. United heads back home Tuesday to face Columbiana.
