HANOVERTON, OH- The United Eagles continue to deliver in the clutch in the early going of 2019. On Friday, it was the stellar pitching and timely hitting that allowed them to walk away with another victory.
In the first inning, Salem got their offense started. Lane Rhodes grounded out, scoring one run. The Quakers would also put up three runs in the seventh inning. Salem‘s big inning was driven by walks by Blaise Exline, Billy Blackburn and by Ricky Enlow.
Leyman was in mid-season form and pitched United to victory. He surrendered four runs on four hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out six. Hahlen threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Josh Young took the loss for Salem. He surrendered seven runs on ten hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Offensively, Bryce Owen, Young, Joey Watson, and Blaise Chaffin each collected one hit to lead Salem.
United scattered ten hits in the game. Block, Parker Hydrick, and McDevitt each racked up multiple hits for United. Magnuson led United with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases.
