URSULINE HAILS OVER HAWKEN

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- The Ursuline Fighting Irish started their journey that will hopefully lead them back to Canton with a first round matchup at Stambaugh Stadium against the Hawken Hawks.

The third-seeded Irish wasted little time in tonight’s battle, marching down the field on their first drive, capping it off with a 6-yard touchdown run by Jack Ericson. A successful two-point conversion made it 8-0 Irish just over a minute-and-a-half into the ballgame. A 27-yard TD run by Ericson towards the to begin the second-quarter plus another two-point conversion gave Ursuline a 16-0 edge. The 14-seed Hawks did not go down easily though, as speedster Jordan Johnson took the ensuing kickoff 90 yards to the end zone as Hawken got on the board for the first time, making it 16-7. A 6-yard touchdown run by DC Ferrell as well as a 66-yard touchdown pass from Ericson to Marc Manning gave the Irish a 28-6 lead heading into the break.

The second half was dominated by Ursuline as well, as Christian Lynch got in on the scoring party on Ursuline’s opening possession of the second quarter, rushing the ball 47 yards to the end zone to make it 36-6 with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter. A 25-yard pick-six by Tairan Davis was the icing on top of a matchup dominated by the Irish, as they came out victorious by a final score of 43-12.

Ursuline will host the Tallmadge Blue Devils next Friday night at 7:00 at Stambaugh Stadium as the look to continue on their quest towards Canton.
