VANCE AND VERDI LET CHARACTER SHINE; WARRIORS DUST BEAVER FALLS

BESSEMER, PA- It isn’t often that a young pitcher will hand the ball over with a no-hitter intact with 3 outs left to play in the game.  However, Mohawk’s Cooper Vance showed grace and character by turning the ball over to teammate JC Voss in the fifth inning with his team up 13.  Voss had been fighting his way back from injury and was his first appearance since.

The Warriors defeated Beaver Falls 13-0 on Monday as the two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

The Warriors secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the fourth inning. Jay WronaA.J. VerdiEthan HareMarc Conti, and Cooper Vance each had RBIs in the frame.  However, the 4-run first inning helped start the engine for Mohawk.  Freshmen AJ Verdi drove in two when he doubled.

One bright spot for Beaver Falls was a single by Nick Wilder in the third inning.

Vance pitched Warriors to victory. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing no hits and zero runs while striking out eight and walking one. Voss threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Zack House took the loss for Beaver Falls. House went three and two-thirds innings, allowing 13 runs on 11 hits and striking out six.

Mohawk racked up 12 hits on the day.  WronaMcBrideVance, and Verdi each collected two hits to lead the Warriors.

Wilder led Beaver Falls with one hit in two at-bats.
