Waterloo Vikings were triumphant over Mineral Ridge Varsity Lady Rams 4-2 on Thursday to split the season series.

A single by Lily Merolillo put Mineral Ridge on the board in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. .

Waterloo jumped into the lead in the top of the fourth when Savannah Turek induced Taylor Heilman to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Morgan Switzer doubled, scoring two runs.

Kristlyn Kehrer earned the win for Waterloo. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Merolillo began the game for Mineral Ridge. She gave up two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking none.

Sweitzer and Kehrer each collected two hits for the Vikings. Sweitzer went 2-for-4 at the plate as the right-handed hitter led the team with two runs batted in.

Number nine hitter, Megan Haynie, showed the depth of Rams lineup, by leading them with two hits in three at bats. Merolillo and Sullivan Sandy each drove in one run. Mineral Ridge turned one double play in the game.
