VIKINGS FALL IN THE FINAL MINUTES
LEAVITTSBURG OH- LaBrae’s season came to an end Friday night in the first round of the playoffs, battling hard but falling short to a tough Smithville squad, 20-13.
Smithville struck first in the 1st quarter with Mason Haines powering in a 7-yard TD run at the 10:00 mark, putting them up 7-0. In the 2nd quarter, LaBrae got on the board with a 20-yard field goal from Josh Biery at 9:55, cutting the deficit to 7-3. LaBrae then took the lead when Kenny Yoho connected with Owen Boone on a 46-yard touchdown pass, making it 10-7.
In the 3rd quarter, Biery hit another 20-yard field goal at 7:26, extending LaBrae’s lead to 13-7. Smithville answered back when Jace Leach punched in a 4-yard TD run at 5:01, though the PAT was blocked, tying the game at 13-13. The 4th quarter was a grind until Mason Haines came through again for Smithville, finding the end zone on an 8-yard TD run with just 1:17 left on the clock, sealing the game at 20-13.
LaBrae fought hard but couldn’t muster enough offense to pull off the win. Their season ends after a valiant effort.
