WARRIORS GET MUCH NEEDED WIN

BELOIT OH- The West Branch Lady Warriors were searching for a win to help boost their confidence after a 1-6 start to the season. West Branch has traditionally been one of the best girls basketball teams in the area for quite some time, and they really haven’t had to face a whole lot of adversity. The Warriors have been playing without YSU commit Sophie Gregory who should return before the end of the season. Today the Lady Warriors played host to Ursuline and walked away with a very impressive 43-27 victory.

West Branch came into the game struggling offensively but that changed quickly. Hannah Egli had her best game of the season from beyond the arch as she led the way with 16 points. Livvie Showalter had another solid performance as she added 10 points for the Lady Warriors. Alli Kanagy, Chloe Dennison, Mikalyn Fitts, and Cami Campbell all made a positive impact on the game as well. They all scored but more importantly, were their key contributors on defense. The strong defensive performance held Ursuline to just two points in the third quarter.

Ursuline struggled to find its offense all night after only scoring 14 points at the half. Alayna Smith who came in as the leading scorer was held quite the entire game. She came in averaging 12 ppg. but was only held to 7 points. Lilly Scott was the leading scorer for Ursuline with 8 points and Chelsea Johnson added 7 for the Lady Fighting Irish.

Coach Deshields was very happy that his team was able to fight back today through some adversity. This isn’t how the team wanted to start the season, but he is pleased with the effort the Lady Warriors give him at all times. West Branch will look to continue their win streak when they welcome East Liverpool on Tuesday at 7P.M. The Lady Warriors improved to 2-6 with the win. Ursuline will look to bounce back when they head back home to take on a tough South Range team. Ursuline drops to 3-4 with the loss.
