WHITING UPSETS CREEKSIDE

STRUTHERS, OH- The Whiting Roll-Offs pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season in the 18U division of the Youngstown Class B League. Whiting entered the ballgame as the last seed in the league, but struck early to beat the number 2 seeded Creekside Fitness on Saturday night.

The Roll-Offs put up a crooked number of 5 runs in the first frame to jump out in front of Creekside. Both Anthony Malagise and Brady Shannon tripled and scored in the first, followed by a 2 RBI single by catcher Nick Vitale. Creekside got on the board in the fifth inning with one of the most uncommon plays in baseball, the inside the park homer run. Creekside designated hitter Andrew Cupan smashed a ball all the way to the right field wall, and hustled around the bases for an inside the park home run. Whiting would get some much needed insurance in the sixth inning with a run scored by Nick Kingerski to make it 6-1. Creekside made it interesting in the seventh inning, putting together a 4 run inning to make it a one run lead, but Malagise induced a ground out to squeeze by Creekside by a final of 6-5.

Roll-Offs starting pitcher Logan Creamer was phenomenal tossing 6 innings and allowing just 2 hits, while striking out 7 batters. Creamer picks up his second win of the season, and pulls off the thrilling upset on Saturday. Creekside and Whiting both return to action tomorrow at Bob Cene Park.
