WILDCATS GET BIG WIN IN FINAL FRAME

VAN BUREN, OH- Struthers stole the lead late in the game in an 8-7 victory over Van Buren on Friday. The game was tied at five with Struthers batting in the top of the seventh when Rob Tomko tripled, scoring two runs.

The Wildcats built a five-run lead in the third inning and then held off Van Buren’s charge. Van Buren scored seven runs in the failed comeback on a single by Austin Switzer in the third, a walk by Saige Warren in the fourth, a wild pitch during Kaleb Snodgrass‘s at-bat in the fourth, a walk by Caden Lance in the fifth, a fielder’s choice by Lance in the seventh, and a single by Warren in the seventh.

In the first inning, Struthers got their offense started. The Wildcats scored one run when Billy Opritza doubled.

Van Buren knotted the game up at five in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Lance drew a walk, scoring one run. Anthony Monaco was credited with the victory for Struthers. He allowed three hits and three runs over three innings, striking out three.

Switzer took the loss for Van Buren. He went four and a third innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out two.

Jared Laczko started the game for Struthers. He went four innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out seven Brady Rader started the game for Van Buren. He surrendered five runs on three hits over two and a third innings, striking out one.

Struthers racked up seven hits in the game. Brandon Breznai and Tomko all collected multiple hits for the Wildcats. Tomko and Breznai each collected two hits to lead the team. Struthers didn’t commit a single error in the field. Hunter Stellato had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.

Rader led Van Buren with two hits in two at-bats.
