GIRARD FACES DOWN OLD RIVAL

JEFFERSON OH- Girard’s volleyball team triumphed in an exhilarating five-set battle on the road against former conference rival Jefferson. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions and intense rallies, with Girard ultimately prevailing with scores of 25-19, 27-29, 25-18, 20-25, and 15-12.

Girard’s standout performer of the night was Bree Latell, who showcased her incredible hitting ability with a whopping 29 kills. She was well-supported by Nico Cochran, who contributed 14 kills of her own, and Bailey Walters, who chipped in with 6 kills. The trio’s offensive firepower was a key factor in Girard’s success.

Bailey Walters, the team’s setter, played a crucial role in orchestrating the offense, tallying an impressive 42 assists. She also contributed defensively, with 23 digs, showcasing her versatility on the court.

Nico Cochran and Alexis Pieton led the serving charge, amassing a total of 12 service points each. Cochran also impressed with her four aces, while Pieton anchored the defense with three blocks.

Defensively, Bailey Walters continued to shine with 23 digs, while Bree Latell added 19. Their tenacious work in the backcourt helped Girard withstand Jefferson’s offensive onslaught.

On the Jefferson side, Chloe O’Rourke’s 29 kills were a standout performance, accompanied by Marillia Matuz’s 13 kills and Helaina Edgar’s 7 kills. Helaina Edgar orchestrated the team’s offense brilliantly, notching 48 assists.

Sara Stone was a service point machine for Jefferson, earning 22 service points, while Helaina Edgar added 20. Chloe O’Rourke’s 31 digs were crucial in keeping the team competitive throughout the match.
