Conneaut, OH- In an incredible performance, the Edgewood Warriors showcased their prowess on the basketball court, defeating the Conneaut Spartans with a final score of 84-44. The game unfolded in four quarters, each reflecting the Warriors’ dominance over their opponents.

The standout performer of the night was Logan Kray from the Edgewood Warriors, who came just one three-pointer shy of breaking the school record held by Hayden Kanicki. Kray’s remarkable display included sinking 11 three-pointers and accumulating a total of 43 points, placing him third in the school’s all-time single-game scoring list.

The Edgewood Warriors, with a season record of 9-3, will be hosting the Harvey Red Raiders (6-7) on January 19, 2024. The Red Raiders are seeking redemption after a 77-51 loss to the Madison Blue Streaks. On the same day, the Conneaut Spartans (3-9) will be facing the Perry Pirates (5-5) at home. The Pirates are coming off a convincing 71-40 victory against the Lakeside Dragons.

The Warriors’ dominant performance has set the stage for an exciting matchup against the Red Raiders, while the Spartans look to bounce back in their upcoming game against the Pirates

WARRIORS RECLAIM HOADLEY CUP IN WIN OVER FALCONS

Jefferson, OH- Hoping to bounce back from a 3 game skid, the Edgewood Warriors showcased their strength and precision on the gridiron, securing a resounding victory against the Jefferson Falcons. The final score: Edgewood 54, Jefferson 7.

The game got off to a scorching start in the first quarter when Tony Hall, Edgewood’s star quarterback, displayed his precision with a 30-yard pass to Zach Carlton-Hull. The Edgewood faithful erupted as the tackle was made at the 2-yard line. Just moments later, Hall punched it in from 1 yard out, and Samuel Linder’s extra point was good, giving Edgewood an early 7-0 lead.

Hall continued to shine as he connected with his receivers for three more touchdowns in the first quarter alone. A 27-yard strike to Hunter Braat, a magnificent 50-yard bomb to Ben Schwartfigure, and another 1-yard toss to Jacob Ernst all found their mark, putting Edgewood up 21-0.

The second quarter saw no respite for Jefferson, as Hall and Ernst connected again for a 1-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 28-0. A missed extra point briefly halted the Warriors’ scoring spree, but they maintained a commanding 34-0 advantage.

Jefferson managed to find the end zone in the third quarter, as Kaige Boczar scored on a 7-yard run, making it 34-7 in favor of Edgewood. However, the Warriors promptly responded with Hall and Ernst connecting once more, stretching their lead to 41-7.

In the final quarter, Zeke Lucas broke free for an impressive 81-yard touchdown run, and Edgewood continued their showcase. Hall closed out his phenomenal performance with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Hunt, bringing the score to 54-7.

With this victory, the Edgewood Warriors improved to a 5-4 record and 1-3 in the CVC Lake Division. The team now prepares for the highly-anticipated “Battle for Bridge” against crosstown rivals, the Lakeside Dragons, in week 10. This clash carries added significance as both teams vie for  spots in the OHSAA playoffs in their respective divisions.

On the other side, the Jefferson Falcons faced a tough loss and are still searching for their first win this season with an 0-9 record and 0-4 in the CVC Lake Division. They will go on the road to challenge the formidable Geneva Eagles, who boast an 8-1 record and a perfect 4-0 division record.

Notably, Tony Hall emerged as the standout performer of the day, contributing a remarkable seven touchdowns to Edgewood’s victory. With this win, the Edgewood Warriors also reclaimed the Hoadley Cup, ending the Jefferson Falcons’ two-year reign over the coveted trophy.

WARRIORS STUMBLE ON THE ROAD

Gates Mills, OH- In an action-packed game, the Hawken Hawks clashed with the Edgewood Warriors in an exciting battle on the gridiron.

The first quarter saw the Hawken Hawks off to a blazing start, with Jordan Johnson’s 2-yard touchdown run and Julian Javoris’s successful extra point kick, giving them an early lead of 7-0. The Hawks continued to dominate with Donovan Moorhead connecting with Tommy Wright for a 2-yard touchdown pass, followed by another successful extra point, extending their lead to 14-0. The first quarter fireworks didn’t stop there as Jordan Johnson returned a punt for an impressive 50-yard touchdown, and with the extra point, the Hawks surged ahead 21-0. Edgewood finally got on the board when Tony Hall found Jacob Ernst with a 6-yard touchdown pass, but they missed the extra point, making it 21-6 in favor of the Hawks.

The first quarter ended with a bang when Kene Obi intercepted Tony Hall’s pass and raced 48 yards for a pick-six, followed by a successful 2-point conversion, giving the Hawks an imposing 29-6 lead.

The second quarter witnessed Edgewood’s Hunter Braat intercepting Donovan Moorhead’s pass and returning it 65 yards for a touchdown. Although they failed to convert the 2-point attempt, Edgewood closed the gap to 29-12. However, Hawken quickly responded with a 55-yard touchdown pass from Moorhead to Obi, accompanied by an extra point, reestablishing their dominance at 36-18. Jordan Johnson’s incredible 62-yard run for a touchdown, coupled with a successful extra point, extended Hawken’s lead to 43-18 at halftime.

The third quarter saw Edgewood making a valiant effort with Tony Hall connecting with Jacob Ernst for a 16-yard touchdown pass, but they couldn’t convert the 2-point attempt, leaving the score at 43-24. Hawken answered back with Lucas Brandt’s 16-yard touchdown run, followed by a good extra point, making it 50-24. Edgewood refused to back down, with Tony Hall finding Anthony Hunt for a 17-yard touchdown pass, along with a successful 2-point conversion, closing the gap to 50-32.

In the fourth quarter, Jordan Johnson added another touchdown for Hawken with a 10-yard run, although they missed the extra point, resulting in a score of 56-32. Edgewood rallied once more, with Tony Hall connecting with Anthony Hunt on a 52-yard touchdown pass, but the 2-point conversion was unsuccessful, leaving the final score at 56-38 in favor of the Hawken Hawks.

With this impressive victory, the Hawken Hawks improved to a 3-1 record, setting the stage for an exciting matchup against the Conneaut Spartans in week 4. Meanwhile, the Edgewood Warriors, also at 3-1, will prepare to host the Chagrin Falls Tigers in their upcoming contest
