RAIDERS FALL JUST SHORT IN PYMATUNING VALLEY

PYMATUNING OH- South Range a their season come to an end Wednesday night as they fell to Pymatuning Valley 41-40 in the district semifinals.

The Raiders came out strong leading after one quarter 13-8. The Raiders were slicing up the Lakers defense with mid range jumpers from the high post. The game would get closer as it ventured towards halftime. The Raiders took a narrow 22-21 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter is where the Lakers put some space between them and the Raiders. They outscored South Range 15-8 to lead 36-30 after three quarters of play. The Raiders never stopped fighting however in the final frame, although they never led the Raiders cut the lead to one with several chances to take the lead in the final moments of the game. The shots just would not fall for South Range, and they fell 41-40.

Brandon Mikos led the Raiders offense with 14 points. He hit 2 threes. Mike Patrone finished in double figures as well with 10.

Pymatuning Valley advances to the district championship game Friday night at 7:00. They will travel to Springfield to take on the Tigers.

CUNNINGHAM’S BIG NIGHT NOT ENOUGH FOR FALCONS

JEFFERSON OH- The 2020-2021 winter sports season has been crazy. From not knowing if there was going to be one to not knowing who your opponent will be from night to night. But teams have pushed ahead. Jefferson is one of those teams. The NE8 is going forward without half of its teams right now, but the Falcons are making the best of it.

Tuesday night they welcomed in one of their rivals Pymatuning Valley. Both teams were ready to go from the opening tip. The first quarter both teams were feeling each other out and seeing where they could attack. The Lakers were able to be get the early lead and keep it throughout the game. Jefferson fought hard all night, but unfortunately they couldn’t get the shots to fall. Py Valley was aggressive all night and keep the pressure on the Falcons. Lakers lead at the half 33-22.

They extended the lead to 20 in the third quarter. Jefferson was able to get as close as 9 in the forth, but Py Valley pushed a head and closed out the evening with a 76-62 win over the Falcons. Jeffersons lone senior Dakota Cunningham was their leading scorer with 22 points. He hit 5 threes on the night.  Leading the way for the Lakers was Tanner Rhodes who had 25 points. He also had 2 dunks on the night.

Jefferson looks to bounce back on Friday as they travel to Struthers and face the Wildcats.

REBELS PUNCH TICKET TO TITLE MATCH

COLUMBIANA OH- Crestview is heading to their second district championship in a row as they made quick work of Pymatuning Valley on Wednesday in a straight set victory (25-13 25-8 25-12).

Lucy Montgomery added another double double to her collection with 12 kills, and 13 assists. She also served up 6 aces. Molly Emch had a good night in the front row with 6 kills, and 4 blocks. Grace Auer had 4 kills, and 13 assists on the night. Hannah Cope led the defense with 8 digs.

Crestview will now host the district championship Saturday as they welcome in a Mooney team that has upset their way into the title match. That match is set to begin at 1:00.
