HOWLAND KEEPS THEIR HOPES ALIVE

BOARDMAN OH- Howland’s 12u Little League squad defeated Canfield 14-4 thanks to a strong start on Thursday night. Howland scored on a walk by Ella Newbrough, a walk by Larissa Petak, an error, a walk by Katelyn Cvetkovich, a single by Ari Cutter, a walk by Carmen Stroup, and a walk by Avery Desavigny in the first inning.

Dae McGaughy took the win for Howland. The pitcher went four innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out ten. Cvetkovich threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Howland collected eight hits on the day. Kiley Fife and Cutter both managed multiple hits. Cutter and Fife each had two hits to lead.

With the win Howland eliminated Canfield, and advances to play Poland on Friday night at 6:00 in an elimination game. That game will be on field S2.

AUSTINTOWN SCOOTS PAST STRUTHERS IN DISTRICT PLAY

BOARDMAN, OH- The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, or in this case, the Falcons don’t flock far from the nest- as the 10U Austintown Softball All-Stars handled Struthers in four innings by the score of 13-0.

Austintown would get on the board in the first with a three-run frame, followed by a one-run second inning, five-run third, and four-run fourth inning to cap things off.

Offensively, Addy Weidenthal went 2-3 and scored twice from the leadoff spot while Peyton Severn, Addison Figley, Ava Panamarczuk, and Julia Jourdan all collected multiple hits during the contest as well.

Weidenthal would start in the circle for A-Town, and get the victory, while Severn came out of the bullpen to cage the Lady Wildcats the rest of the way.

For Struthers, Noelle Dubos, Nadia Haus, Grace Farina, and Callie Sodeman all reached base during the game.

Struthers will be back in action this Sunday at 10am, while Austintown gets a rest until Monday at 6pm.  Both games will be on YSN.
