BEAVERS LOSE WIN STREAK

WHEELING WV- The Beavers had their 7 game winning streak out to an end on Friday night, falling to the Wheeling Central Catholic Martin Knights on the road 21-7.

The Beavers got the scoring started, courtesy of a Caleb White 54 yard TD run on the first drive of the game. From then on, the moral of the story for the Beavers was self inflicted wounds. They were plagued by penalties in the first half, and the Knights took advantage, scoring two TDS in the first half on a 21 yard throw from Michael Toepfer to Jaylen Miller, and the second a Toepfer TD run. Two of those penalties brought back 35+ yard TD plays. One was a 37 yard screen pass to White called back for illegal formation, which would have given the Beavers the lead back.

The other a block in the back, which was not needed, on an 87 yard kickoff return TD by White which would have tied it at the half. The Beavers came out of the locker room with a defensive stop and a really good drive, taking the ball all the way inside the Knights 5 yard line, but a fumble at the 4 ended the drive. They would get another stop and the ball back, but a 10 yard loss on another fumble by the Beaver offense put them behind the chains, and the Knights kept the Beavers there forcing a punt. Wheeling Central Catholic dialing up the pressure all day long was another contributing factor, as the stop led to a long, time consuming and game sealing TD drive, capped off by a Cole O’Neil TD run.

The Beavers are still playoff bound, awaiting their opponent. They will be playing Friday on the road against the tbd opponent.
