CANFIELD FINISHES THE JOB
Canfield finished up their journey all the way through the loser’s bracket in the 10U softball District 2 championship on Tuesday, beating Austintown for the second night in a row 3-1 to clinch the title and punch their ticket to state.
Canfield’s offense was on fire, with Grace Carpenter leading the way by going 2-2 with an RBI. Gabby Stack contributed with a 1-2 performance and an RBI, while Lydia Handel also added an RBI. Lilly Barber, McKayla Lang, and Emmie Edenfield each went 1-2 and scored a run, with Jessa Deley chipping in with a 1-2 night.
On the mound, Stack pitched 2.2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 1 run while striking out 5. Barber took over for 3.1 innings, giving up 2 hits, no runs, and striking out 7, sealing the deal for Canfield.
For Austintown, Addison Figley had a strong performance, going 2-2 with a run and a walk. Camille Williams and Lucia Williams each went 1-2, while Khloe Grimm drove in a run. Figley also pitched 4 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs while striking out 4.
Canfield’s combination of solid hitting and strong pitching proved too much for Austintown, earning them the championship and a spot in the state tournament.
