JEFFERSON, OH- Welcome to the inaugural episode of the “Jefferson Football Coaches Corner” on the Your Sports Network (YSN) podcast! The first episode features Jefferson Falcons’ head football coach, Brandon Hanna, as he sits down with host Sam Torres to discuss the intricacies and challenges of coaching at the junior high and high school levels.
Brandon touches on the importance of his coaching staff and the vital roles they play. “Each member of our staff brings something unique to the table,” Hanna mentions. “Whether it’s their experience, energy, or creativity, it all contributes to our team’s success.”
Reflecting on the trials of the previous season, Hanna opens up about the hurdles brought on by the graduation of key players. “We lost some major talent last year, and it was tough to fill those gaps, but it’s about staying positive and keeping practices fun. Building relationships during tough times is essential,” he says.
Hanna is particularly excited about his team’s athletic prowess this season. He highlighted the offensive line’s robust performance in recent scrimmages and specifically praised his four receivers. “Devin Salinas and Kaige Boczar are standouts, and Kaige’s newfound confidence and speed are going to be key for us,” Hanna remarks.
The conversation briefly shifts to the competition in the CVC Lake conference. “We know the level of competition is high, and this season, Jefferson needs to show we can not only compete but punch back,” Hanna asserts. He mentions the upcoming games against traditional rivals Girard and Lakeview, emphasizing the historical significance of these matchups.
The off-season focus on conditioning and team cohesion cannot be overstated. “Our strength training has really paid off, and the team is bonding like never before. The improvements in their strength and camaraderie are apparent,” Hanna proudly notes.
Building a positive team culture and strong character amongst players is a recurring theme in Hanna’s coaching philosophy. Despite coming off a winless season, the energy and attitude of the players have left a strong impression on him. “The enthusiasm and positivity I’ve seen from the players this off-season are inspiring. We might not know what the season holds, but I believe in my team,” Hanna says.
Hanna expresses profound gratitude for the leadership and support provided by the school’s administration. “The superintendent’s commitment to providing quality facilities and an excellent environment for our athletes speaks volumes. We are very fortunate,” he acknowledges.
Before signing off, both Hanna and Torres recognize the school’s band as a vital part of the game-night experience. “The energy they bring to the stadium is unparalleled. We’re truly lucky to have them on our side,” Hanna enthusiastically praises.
