MILLION DOLLAR MAN

COLUMBIANA, OH – The Columbiana Clippers boys basketball program is one of those programs that you can always expect tough, physical, and gritty basketball players to show up, do their job, and leave the gym knowing that they were there. This mindset of get the job done and win at all cost is something that junior guard Nick Million has. embodied throughout his career.

Nick is currently in the middle of his junior season and he is looking to continue to build his talents and become a force for Coach Johnson and the Columbiana Clippers as the season goes on and before the playoffs begin. On the season, Million is averaging 13.5 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, and 2.3 steals per game! Not only is he having a great statistical season, he also tied the Columbiana boys basketball all-time record for threes in a game with 7 made earlier this year against Wellsville!

Million’s success can be directly tied to his work ethic. Although no one on the outside sees it, Nick is always the first on in the gym and the last to leave, this “gym rat” mentality has also allowed him to play basketball year-round as he plays AAU for the Ohio Lakers as soon as the high school season ends! Not only does Nick basically live in the gym, when he is there, it’s all business, and that work ethic has caught the eye of Coach Johnson as he is able to lean on Nick to be a leader and be able to get his teammates involved in that mindset also!

YSN’s own, DJ Yokley, was able to catch up with Nick via video chat this week to talk about the current season, how COVID has effected him and his junior season, what his expectations are for this season as the OHSAA tournament is inching closer, what it means to him to be a Clipper, and so much more!

MR. ANDERSEN- WE’VE BEEN EXPECTING YOU

COLUMBIANA, OH – Over the years, Columbiana has seen plenty of point guards come and go, each of them leaving their own mark on the program, but one in particular sticks out as a player who wants to leave his mark as one of the best leaders on the floor. Tyler Andersen has taken his talents to the next level by working on his craft day in and day out but he has also been able to step up into the role of a team leader and someone who prides himself on being a part of the Columbiana Clippers basketball program!

Andersen, currently in the middle of his senior basketball campaign, is playing great basketball as the floor general for Coach Johnson and the Clippers. When talking to Tyler, he will be the first to give credit to his teammates before ever claiming any success on his own, but not only that, he will be the first to tell you that he is not even worried about individual success, he just wants to win and will do whatever it takes to make that happen!

This mindset of doing everything needed to get a win has started to rub off on his teammates as well as the Clippers are starting to heat up as the second half of the season gets underway! Tyler and the Clips will look to get two big wins starting on Tuesday at home against Lowellville then on Friday at Wellsville.

YSN’s own, DJ Yokley, was able to catch up with Tyler via video chat this week to talk about the current season, how COVID has effected him and his senior season, what his plans are for after high school, what it means to him to be a Clipper, and so much more!

NEW AGE WHITEHAIR

COLUMBIANA, OH – The Columbiana Clippers have always had a rich tradition of basketball success and great senior classes that have gone on to do incredible things on and off the hardwood, one senior this season has been at the front row for the majority of his career and has learned from those before him on how to lead by example. That man is Dalton Whitehair.

Like many seniors before him, Dalton has taken the role of senior leader this season and ran with it! Whitehair has been someone who Coach Johnson looks to in crunch time to rally the team and get them all on the same page, he has been able to step up when the Clips need a bucket or key defensive stop, but also in the classroom Dalton is able to show how to be a student-athlete. Although a lot of people in the community talk about Whitehair’s play, he is the first to give credit to his teammates around him and his coaches for always supporting him and putting him in the best position to succeed. Whitehair never takes credit for himself as he has a team-first mentality and a win at all costs style of play. Dalton and fellow senior, Tyler Andersen, are currently leading a Clippers team that is looking to do some damage in the second half of the regular season- then the playoffs!

YSN’s own, DJ Yokley, was able to sit down via video chat this week with Dalton to talk about the Clippers season so far, how his senior season has been going, what his plans are for after high school, what the Clippers need to do to prepare for the second half of the season, and much much more!
