In a recent episode of the Poland Bulldog Show, Coach Ryan Williams shared his extensive journey in coaching, having started in 1992 at Crestview High School before making significant stops at Cardinal Mooney and Austin Town Fitch. His experience, combined with his passion for mentoring young athletes, has cemented his status as a cornerstone of Poland Seminary’s coaching staff.

Despite a recent nail-biting loss to Canfield, where Poland fought back from a two-touchdown deficit only to fall short by a yard on a crucial fourth down, Coach Williams remains optimistic. “Our guys battled. I mean, we played hard. We didn’t play real smart sometimes, and that’s frustrating, but we were playing our hardest as time ran out. We were real proud of our guys that way,” Williams said.

Attention now shifts to Hubbard, a team Williams describes as balanced and confident. “They’ve done a nice job of matching personnel with what they’re asking them to do. They’ve got a couple of nice wideouts, a big physical back, and a quarterback who is a dual threat,” he noted. CANFIELD, OH-  The Canfield Cardinals’ senior wide receiver and cornerback Nick Joseph is making waves on and off the field during his final high school football season. In an exclusive interview on YSN’s latest episode, Joseph shared insights into his journey, the significance of family support, and the team’s goals for the season.

Last Friday, Joseph played a pivotal role in Canfield’s thrilling victory against their archrival, the Poland Bulldogs, in the highly anticipated “Battle of 224.” Reflecting on the game, Joseph said, “It felt really good to get our get back from last year. It was a sad loss, but we made it work this year, and we’re very proud of it.”
The Canfield Cardinals are sitting at a 2-2 record and looking strong. Joseph attributes much of his success to his family’s unwavering support. “My family has done everything they could. They’ve come to every game. They’ve supported me. They wear a jersey with my name on it at every game, and they’re always bringing my grandparents,” he shared proudly.

When faced with the perennial question of whether he prefers offense or defense, Joseph’s current focus lies on the defensive side. “I’ve been liking defense a lot recently,” he admitted. He lauded the team’s defensive depth, highlighting the trust and cohesion within the squad.

As senior year advances, Joseph fondly recalls his journey from freshman year to now, noting the camaraderie among the senior class. “Our senior group, we’re a smaller class. We’ve had a lot of people leave our class, but we’ve stayed together and stayed friends,” he said.

Looking ahead, Joseph has ambitious academic goals, considering a future in engineering or business, with institutions like Miami University of Ohio on his radar.

BERLIN CENTER, OH- Western Reserve’s defensive coordinator, Coach Collin Dotson, shared his insights on the team’s successful season and their upcoming rematch against Lowellville.

Coach Dotson, who has been coaching alongside Head Coach John Armeni since 2015, expressed his admiration for Coach Armeni as a mentor and friend. He described the experience of working with him as “unbelievable” and emphasized the importance of the tight-knit coaching staff at Western Reserve.

When asked why he chose football as his coaching path, Coach Dotson credited his experiences as a player at Howland for instilling in him a passion for leadership and mentoring young men. He shared his love for being around student-athletes and the opportunity to give back by offering them a positive experience like he had as a player.

Speaking about his time at Western Reserve, Coach Dotson highlighted the incredible support from the community. He described the community as tight-knit and caring, with a genuine love for their coaches and players. Coach Dotson attributed much of the team’s success to this community support and emphasized that it was not mere lip service. The genuine care and affection within the community inspired the coaching staff to reciprocate that love.
