WARREN, OH- Warren, Ohio – In a season marked by highs and lows, the Warren JFK Lady Eagles basketball team has demonstrated resilience and unity, with standout performances from leaders Aniyah Johnson and Gianna Pompelia. The team has battled through injuries and everyday challenges, with a recent podcast interview revealing insights into their journey.

In a conversation on the YSN podcast, Johnson and Pompelia opened up about their season. Aniyah shared that despite early challenges, including a key player injury and tough practices, the Lady Eagles have prioritized teamwork and determination, influenced by last year’s near-miss at the district finals.

Gianna Pompelia recounted the pivotal moment of helping an injured teammate, describing the increased responsibility the team took on afterwards. She emphasized the importance of sharing the ball and the collective effort that has propelled their success. “Everyone can make us win and everyone can step up to the plate,” she noted.

Both players acknowledged past struggles but spoke of their renewed hunger for this year’s district final. Driven by past experiences, they aim to inspire the community and younger athletes who look up to the program.

As the season continues, JFK Lady Eagles are determined to secure their district championship, proving that hard work, team spirit, and unwavering focus can truly elevate a team.

POLAND FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 5) WITH TOM PAVLANSKY

POLAND, OH-  Despite a challenging game last Friday, the Poland Bulldogs and their head coach, Tom Pavlansky, are keeping their heads held high and eyes focused on the future. During a lively discussion at Bulldogs Bar and Grill, Coach Pavlansky shared his insights and reflections with host Matt Romeo on the latest episode of the YSN Poland Bulldog Show.

“We didn’t get the result we wanted, but our kids fought hard,” Coach Pavlansky stated. “It’s important to learn from our experiences and keep working hard in practice.”

The conversation touched on the high-intensity atmosphere of Friday’s game, which closely mirrored the Georgia-Alabama clash in college football. Both teams showcased their resilience, demonstrating why high school football is such a beloved part of the community.

Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, the Bulldogs maintained their focus. With the onset of “football weather,” Coach Pavlansky emphasized that no drastic changes were needed in their practice routines. “We need to be ready for anything. The other team faces the same conditions,” he remarked.

Romeo also took a closer look at Coach Pavlansky’s pregame rituals, highlighting his dedication both in the classroom as a social studies teacher and on the field. “Coaching is teaching, and teaching is coaching. They are one and the same,” Pavlansky explained.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs are gearing up for their next match against Niles, a young and eager squad. While acknowledging their opponent’s recent challenges and strengths, Pavlansky maintained that his team’s focus remains solely on the game ahead.

“We play Niles this week, and that’s where our focus should be,” Pavlansky asserted. “We know we have to be ready to go.”

With this unwavering spirit and a positive outlook, the Poland Bulldogs are determined to continue growing and improving as they progress through the season. As Coach Pavlansky aptly put it, “There’s too much negative in the world. We have to stay positive and keep believing in each other.”

CANFIELD, OH- Madison Dado, a senior at South Range High School, was the guest on the YSN podcast’s South Range Raider show. Madi was a multi-sport athlete, excelling in both volleyball and softball.

Deangelos asked Madi about her responsibilities on the volleyball team, and she explained that she played different positions each year. She had gained a strong understanding of the middle position after playing it for two years, and she also played in the back row.

When it came to training for both sports, Madi mentioned that she consistently went to Troy Parks throughout each season. She focused on the specific sport she was playing at the time, giving her full attention to the current season.

Deangelos then mentioned Madi’s impressive abilities on the softball field, particularly her powerful throws. He noted that in both volleyball and softball, speed played a significant role. Madi explained that while she was in control as a center fielder in softball, playing volleyball required a different level of communication and understanding with her teammate, Anna Troy.

The conversation shifted to Madi’s role in guiding Anna, a freshman on the team. Madi credited Anna’s natural talent and ability to assimilate into the team seamlessly. Madi herself had received guidance from Reagan, a teammate who helped her navigate the back row position.

Her recent successful run with the team, having faced tough opponents has been impressive. The busy schedule allowed little time to relax, as they had to quickly shift focus to the next opponent. Madi also mentioned how she managed to balance her time during homecoming week, thanks to a day off provided by Coach Irons.

As the conversation moved toward Madi’s future goals, she expressed her desire to continue playing a sport at the collegiate level. She explained that her passion for the sport and the relationships she built through it were driving factors. However, she also shared her aspiration to become a physician’s assistant after college, inspired by her love for the show Grey’s Anatomy and her family’s background in healthcare.

Madi spoke fondly of her family, acknowledging the sacrifices they made to support her and her sisters’ sporting endeavors. Her parents, a nurse and a police officer, served as role models, always encouraging her to pursue her dreams.

Before wrapping up, Madi gushed about her excitement for a trip to Myrtle Beach. and expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming experience.
