MOONEY PLANTS THEIR FLAG AS VALLEY’S BEST

BOARDMAN OH- In a dominant performance, Mooney Lacrosse extended their undefeated streak against the valley’s teams with a resounding 17-5 victory over Boardman, improving their record to 11-3.

Ella Szalay showcased her talent with 5 goals and an impressive 10 draw controls, leading Mooney’s offensive charge. Molly Simons also had a standout game, contributing 5 goals and 6 ground balls. Angelee Blasko played a key role with 2 goals and 3 assists, while Lexi Italiano and Natalie Blasko each added 2 goals. Frankie Cassese rounded out the scoring with 1 goal.

In goal, Alyssa Ray was stellar, recording 10 saves to anchor Mooney’s defense and secure the win.

With this victory, Mooney remains undefeated against local lacrosse teams and continues to assert their dominance in the valley. They now look ahead to their next challenge as they travel to face Akron St. V’s in their upcoming game at 10am.

CARDINALS STAYING ON TOP OF THINGS

YOUNGSTOWN OH- In a thrilling matchup, Mooney Lacrosse showcased their skill, defeating Mentor Lake Catholic 11-6 and improving their record to an impressive 8-3 for the season.

Leading the charge for Mooney was Ella Szalay, who delivered an outstanding performance with 7 goals, 1 assist, and 7 draw controls. Her exceptional play was instrumental in guiding the team to victory. Supporting Szalay’s efforts, Sophia Rotunno, Frankie Cassese, Angelee Blasko, and Molly Simons each contributed with a goal of their own, adding to the team’s offensive firepower.

However, Mooney’s success wasn’t just limited to the offensive end. Alyssa Ray stood tall between the pipes, making an incredible 20 saves to anchor the defense and frustrate the opposition’s scoring attempts.

With this win, Mooney continues to assert themselves as a force to be reckoned with in lacrosse circles. Their teamwork, skill, and determination have propelled them to the upper echelons of the league standings.

Looking ahead, Mooney will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare to host Orange in their next matchup on Wednesday at 6:30 pm. Expectations are high as they aim to build on their recent success and continue their winning streak.

FILLING THE GAPS

BOARDMAN OH- At just a sophomore, Ava Gaps is already making waves as a well-rounded athlete at Boardman High School. Not only is she a key player on the lacrosse team, but she also excels in volleyball and basketball, showcasing her versatility and athleticism across multiple sports.

Despite her young age, Ava displays all the qualities of a natural leader. Whether she’s on the lacrosse field, the volleyball court, or the basketball court, she leads by example and isn’t afraid to step up and take charge when needed.

Ava’s journey in lacrosse began at a young age, and her dedication to the sport has paid off. As a sophomore, she has earned the honor of being named captain, a testament to her leadership skills and commitment to the team.

Off the field, Ava has already set her sights on a career in nursing. Her passion for helping others and making a positive impact in people’s lives has led her to pursue this path. With her caring nature and drive to succeed, she’s determined to make a difference in the world of healthcare.

In addition to her athletic pursuits, Ava also maintains an impressive GPA of 3.8. Balancing academics and athletics is no easy feat, but Ava tackles both with determination and grace, demonstrating her ability to excel in all areas of her life.

As Ava looks ahead to the next two years of high school, she’s determined to continue growing as an athlete, a student, and a leader. With plenty of goals still on her checklist, she’s ready to seize every opportunity and make the most of her time at Boardman High School. Watch out for Ava Gaps – she’s just getting started, and the future is bright for this rising star.

MOONEY STILL FINDING WINS

Mooney used another impressive defensive performance on Wednesday night and improved to 4-0 after defeating Akron Hoban 8-4.

Ella Szalay and Natalie Blasko led the way with 3 goals each. Angelee Blasko and Sophia Rotunno each added a goal. Lainey Hunt and Ella Szalay also had an assist each. Alyssa Ray with a career night having 20 saves in goal.

Mooney will not return to play until anfter spring break.  Their next game is April 9 at Shaker Heights Laurel for a 5:30 start.

MOONEY TAKES BATTLE OF THE CARDS

Mooney continued their tour of local teams on Tuesday night and defeated Canfield 8-4 to improve to 3-0.

Ella Szalay led the way with 4 goals and 7 draw controls. Sophia Rotunno had 2 goals and 4 ground balls. Frankie Cassese and Angelee Blasko rounded out scoring with one goal each. Alyssa Ray was a wall in the goal with 11 saves.

Mooney returns to play tomorrow at home vs Akron Hoban at 6:30pm.

CARDINALS HAND A BIG LOSS TO CHARDON

CANFIELD OH-  Senior Emily Wilson scored a hat trick with 3 goals leading the Lady Cardinals to a 9-o victory. Seniors Sarah Grohovsky and Elena Martin added 2 goals apiece, while fellow seniors Ally Wilson and Gwen Lolakiseach added 1 goal.

Goalies Karley D’Apolito held the Hilltoppers scoreless.

The Canfield Lady Cardinals face off against the Green Lady Bulldogs on Monday at 5:30pm at home in Bob Dove Stadium in Canfield.

Emily Wilson scores one of her three goals of the day.
