SPRINGFIELD TIGERS COACH’S CORNER: WITH SEAN GUERRIERO

NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio- Week 11 has been familiar territory for the Springfield Tigers the last few
years, as they secured a top-three spot in Region 21 from 2019-2021. With many of the program’s most
successful players ever moving on and a drop from Division VI to Division VII in 2022, the Tigers are
looking to carry on the tradition of playoff excellence, while also building a new identity for themselves.
Springfield had a very rough start to the 2022 campaign, dropping their first four match-ups to teams
with a combined record of 36-4, which marked the first time that Springfield had dropped four games in
an entire season since 2015. A Week 5 hard-fought victory against then-undefeated Mineral Ridge was a
huge momentum shift for the Tigers, as they reeled off six-consecutive victories to end the regular
season.

The Tigers snuck their way into the Top 8 teams in Region 25 in Week 10 as well, solidifying
another year with a home playoff game. Springfield faces a very tough test in Week 11, as they welcome
the 8-2 Matthews Mustangs to New Middletown on Friday night.

In this week’s coaches’ corner, Springfield Head Coach Sean Guerriero talked about the resurgence of
the squad after a tough start to the year, how the experience has been gained throughout the season,
what to look forward to in this week’s match up, and more!
