YOUNGSTOWN, OH- It’s a new age in Ursuline Basketball, as the previous regime moves on, legendary Irish leader Mike Kernan has taken the reigns for the Girls Hoops Team in 2019-2020.  On his watch, he’s led the softball team to successful seasons for over a decade and now will look to do the same with the basketball program.

A relatively young team in 2019, Kernan will be faced with filling the shoes of Dayshanette Harris as one of the program’s best players in Green and Gold is now with Pitt.

COLUMBIANA BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH TODD JOHNSON

COLUMBIANA, OH- It’s “The Nicest Place in America.”  Home to the Columbiana Clippers, and high expectations on the hardwood in 2020.  Coach Todd Johnson has been walking into gymnasiums all over the area this season with a new feeling, one that he and his team are being chased.  The Clippers are now in firm sights in the EOAC, and every team is bringing their A-game when they sit adjacent to the Red and White.

All things considered, it’s not a bad place to be for Coach Johnson, considering in his fourth year, he’s been able to walk the same path as his existing seniors.  Filled with experience, heart, and determination to make 2020 his best, we sat down with the Clipper Captain to discuss the year thus far, and what lies ahead.

MOONEY BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP2 WITH CAREY PALERMO)

Nothing can get a team on a roll quite like a huge road victory. And the win over Poland was just what the doctor ordered for the Cardinals after a 1-2 start to the season. Just like their coach, however, the Mooney boys are not dwelling on past accomplishments or games, as they have an equally big game this Friday against the Boardman Spartans.

Nate Keiper sat down with “Coach P”, Carey Palermo, to discuss how Mooney responded to the big victory, how his players have to earn it each and every practice, and much more in this week’s edition of the Coach’s Corner.

SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3 WITH JEFF FISHEL)

South Range has had an impressive stretch of games since the last time we’ve caught up with coach Jeff Fishel. A close loss to a Poland team that dominated the season series a year ago and wins over Hubbard, Ursuline, and Struthers. Coach Fishel wants the team to stay competitive in a stretch of games where they play 9 times with just 4 practices in that stretch.

Anthony Hartwig caught up with Jeff after their win over Struthers to update the fans on how the team looked in the last week, what to expect in upcoming games, and much more. Enjoy Episode 3 of Coach’s Corner with Jeff Fishel.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 4 WITH NICK BLANCH)

It’s been a couple weeks since we got to catch up with Coach Blanch, and it’s been a busy week for the Bulldogs.  They’ve gone through a tough schedule unscathed and are sitting at on the season. With wins over South Range, Girard, and Boardman things are looking pretty good in Poland. Coach Blanch sees a lot of room for improvement among the success his team has enjoyed this year. They keep looking to take it one game at a time as they trek forward into games against Jefferson and Warren Harding.

Anthony Hartwig headed down to Poland to get the scoop from Coach Blanch. They discuss the week that was, the upcoming games, and much more. Don’t miss the newest episode of Coach’s Corner with Nick Blanch.

EAST PALESTINE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH WILL FRANKLIN

EAST PALESTINE, OH- Coming off the most successful year in recent history, and Coach Franklin’s most successful as the Head Coach, the Lady Bulldogs are looking to build on a 17-win season just a year ago.  It won’t be an easy road, but it’s certainly attainable.

The Lady Dogs are brushing off a tough loss to Leetonia that left them wanting nothing more than to get back on the hardwood, but the weather kept that from happening early this week.  With an EOAC battle on Thursday and a holiday tournament at home on Saturday, EP needs to right the ship quickly to help build toward the thick of their schedule post-holiday.

We caught up with Coach “Frank” to discuss the opportunities ahead as well as what he’s looking to build upon this season.

All that and more on this week’s episode of East Palestine Coach’s Corner with Will Franklin.

CRESTVIEW LADY REBELS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 1) WITH AARON BLATCH

Coach Aaron Blatch and the Crestview Lady Rebels are off to a strong start in the 2019-2020 high school basketball season, currently sitting at 3-1. The Lady Rebs are coming off their first loss of the season to the Liberty Leopards, but Coach Blatch knows that an early loss in the season can be a solid teaching moment to build the chemistry and ultimately lead to success later on in the season.

The Lady Rebels will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday, December 14th, as they will hit the road and travel up to Champion to take on the Golden Flashes. Crestview will then return home on Wednesday, December 18th, as the Lady Rebs will welcome the Brookfield Warriors to town.

YSN’s own, D.J. Yokley, had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Coach Blatch to preview the matchup against Champion but also to discuss the team this year and see what his outlook is on the 2019-2020 basketball season.
