MOONEY SHOWS NO RUST AFTER SPRING BREAK

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Mooney Lacrosse returns from spring break and improves to 7-1 as they defeat Orange 16-11.

Mooney had 6 different people contribute to the leaderboard. Addison Stacy led the team with 5 goals and 1 assist. Ella Szalay had 4 goals, 4 assists, 10 draw controls, 6 ground balls, and 5 caused turnovers. Sophia Graziano had 3 goals.

Peyton Campbell added two, while Molly Simons and Angelee Blasko had one. Alyssa Ray had 9 saves in goal. Combined defense had 14 caused turnovers on the night. Mooney returns to action again tomorrow as they go to West Geauga for a 5:30PM game.

CARDINALS GET BACK TO BUSINESS

CANFIELD OH- Not swayed by spring break, the Canfield girls lacrosse team stayed hot defeating Boardman 13-6 Tuesday night. The Cardinals improve to an impressive 6-1 on the season.

The Cards did a great job sharing the ball as they had six different goal scorers on the night. Olivia Hunter led the cards with 4 goals, Ashlyn Elford had 3, Radhika Uppal and Ashleigh Haas had 2 goals each, while Karley Gerst and Mady Gordon added 1 each.

Credit to the defense and hustle, the team had a season high eight interceptions. Mady Hecker in goal saved ten shots on goal.

CARDINALS SEND LOUISVILLE PACKING

CANFIEKD OH- Canfield was able to improve to 4-1 on Tuesday night after an impressive 8-3 home win against Louisville.

Karley Gerst led the Cardinals on offense with 5 goals. Olivia Hunter played a big role and chipped in with 2, and Radhika Uppal added another. Josie Sipe led the team in ground balls and had 2 interceptions as well. Mady Hecker kept the leopards at bay by saving 10 shots on goal.

The Cardinals have no time to rest they’ll be right back at it at Poland on Wednesday. That match is set to start at 6:00.

MOONEY TAKES MOMENTUM INTO SPRING BREAK

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Mooney looked to  head into spring break with a lot of momentum on Saturday afternoon. They did just that improving their record to 6-1 after defeating Laurel 12-2.

Peyton Campbell and Ella Szalay each had 4 goals in the win. Addison Stacy had 2 goals. Angelee Blasko and Sarah Schaller added 1 goal. Alyssa Ray had 5 saves in goal.

Mooney will take a solid break and return to action April 19 as they travel to Orange for post spring break play.

MOONEY GETS REVENGE ON THE LANCERS

YOUNGSTOWN OH- After losing 10-1 last season to Gilmour Academy, Cardinal Mooney was locked in on sweet revenge Thursday night as they defeated the Lancers 10-7 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Peyton Campbell led offense with 4 goals, while Addison Stacy had 3. Ella Szalay had 2 goals, 2 assists, and 11 draw controls. Sophia Graziano rounded out the night with one goal. Alyssa Ray had 15 saves in goal.

Mooney will play home one last time before spring break Saturday at noon vs Laurel!

SZALAY GETS 100TH GOAL AS MOONEY GETS THE VICTORY

Mooney improved to 4-1 on Tuesday night after defeating Poland 9-8. Addison Stacy led with 3 goals. Ella Szalay reached a milestone of 100 career goals by adding 2 goals and an assist on the night.  Peyton Campbell had 2 goals, while Angelee Blasko and Sarah Schaller had 1 a piece. Alyssa Ray made 7 saves in goal.

Mooney travels to Gilmour Academy Thursday for another road match up at 6:30pm.

CARDINALS ESCAPE HOBAN IN SUDDEN DEATH

AKRON OH- Cardinal Mooney Lacrosse escaped Akron Monday night with a sudden death overtime win  by defeating Akron Hoban 11-10.

Sarah Schaller is the hero of the night as she scored the game winning goal, along with her total of 4 goals. Ella Szalay led for the Cardinals with 7 goals and 4 ground balls. Alyssa Ray had 5 saves in goal.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday night as they travel to Poland for a 6pm match-up with the Bulldogs.

MOONEY OPENS THE SEASON STRONG

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Mooney girls lacrosse started the season off 1-0 Monday night after a 13-4 win over Boardman.

Ella Szalay led with 7 goals, 1 assist, 6 draw controls, and 7 ground balls. Addison Stacy had 2 goals, 1 assist, and 5 draw controls. Natalie Blasko, Sarah Schaller, Angelee Blasko, and Sophia Graziano all added a goal as well. Alyssa Ray had 7 saves in goal.

Mooney will get back to work on Tuesday as they Akron St. Vincent St. Mary. The start time for that match is 6:00

CARDINALS EARN SPOT IN PROGRAM’S FIRST REGIONAL FINAL

CANFIELD OH- Senior Sarah Grohovsky netted 4 goals to lead the Canfield Lady Cards over their rival Kenston Lady Bombers. Ally Wilson followed with 3 goals. Emily Wilson had 1 goal with 4 assists. Ashleigh Haas had 1 goal and 1 assist and Elena Martin and Campbell Klingensmith finished off scoring with 1 goal apiece.

Canfield goalie Karley D’Apolito had 11 saves on the night. Stifling Kenston’s strong offense.
Kenston scorers were led by Maddy Blazey, Alexis Black and Sam Bergansky with 2 goals apiece. Amanda Eastman scored one goal.

The Lady Cards advance to the quarterfinals against Chagrin Falls in Chagrin on Friday at 6:00pm.

DAPOLITO REACHES MILESTONE; CANFIELD REACHES NEXT ROUND

CANFIELD OH-

Goalie Karley D’Apolito broke a goalie milestone Thursday night by achieving her 200thsave as a Lady Cardinal.  

Senior Emily Wilson tied the game-high record for the Canfield Lady Cards with 7 goals on the evening. She was by fellow seniors Sarah Grohovsky with 4 goals and Taylor Stansloski, Jenna Vrabel, and Ally Wilson with2 goals apiece, and sophomore Campbell Klingensmith with 1 goal.   

Kacey Brown and Macy Askea led the Lady Fighting Irish of St Vincent St Mary with 2 goals apiece while Riley Jennings added 1 goal.

 

Canfield Lady Cards advance in the OHSAA playoffs to face the winner of Gates Mill Gilmour Academy vs Mentor Lake Catholic on Saturday, May 21st at noon in Canfield at Bob Dove Stadium.
