EAGLES MAKE STATEMENT INSIDE EOAC

HANOVERTON OH- Heading into Thursday night’s matchup was one where many were discussing how this may be an early season preview of who may among the best teams in the EOAC.  United quickly answered the question defeating Leetonia 58-23.

Behind a very aggressive pressure defense the Eagles were able to create multiple scoring opportunities off Bears turnovers racing out to a commanding 19-7 first quarter lead.  Head Coach Josh Sigler on his team’s early success “We want to be a high tempo team, so it was important for us to get out to a fast start to establish that.”  That fast start showed no indication of slowing down as United extended their lead to 38-13 at the half.

“We talked as a team about dictating the game at both ends of the floor.” Sigler added.  Madison Kibler led the charge on the offensive end for the Eagles tallying 16 points on the night.

Taylor Cope 12 points and Colby Burton 6 points / 6 rebounds   contributed mightily inside the paint for the victors.  United also received contributions from Grace Knight with 8 points / 7 rebounds.

The second half was more of the same for United, which saw their defense clamp down limiting Leetonia to 10 second half points.  The aggressive defense of the Eagles led to 24 turnovers by the Bears on the night.

Leetonia was led by standout junior guard  Ella Gregorino with 13 points and McKendra Cope with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams return to action Monday with EOAC opponents.   Leetonia (3-1) entertains East Palestine, while United (2-1) heads to Salineville to face undefeated (5-0) Southern Local.
