LADY SPARTANS FALL IN OPENER

MARLINGTON, OH- Sophomore Bella Martin leads the Spartans on the boards with 9 rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Spartans lost in this hard-fought game by a final score of 71-41. The Boardman girls basketball team went on the road to Marlington High School to open their season. The Spartans came out to a 4-0 lead but found themselves tied at 8 with the Dukes after the first quarter. Boardman struggled to settle into their offense, committing 28 turnovers in the contest.

By halftime, the Spartans had fallen behind 34-17. After intermission, the girls managed to cut the deficit to 11 midway through the third quarter, but a quick three shifted the momentum back in Marlington’s favor. Boardman managed to out-rebound the Dukes 42-27 but failed to capitalize on second-chance shots.

Contributing to the scoring end were seniors Raegan Burkey (13) and Katie Stamp (6), juniors Emma Mills (7) and Paige Snyder (2), sophomore Gia Triveri (4), and freshmen Mackenzie Riccitelli (7) and Sam Duble (2). Other contributors to the effort were seniors Bailey Moore and Kennedy Furano, and sophomores Adrianna Goske, Bella Martin, and Reagan Smith. The Spartans look to defend their home court in Saturday’s home opener against Salem.
