O’DONNELL SHUTS DOWN SPARTANS

HOWLAND, OH- The Howland Tigers snagged a solid 5-1 win over Boardman on Wednesday, with the bottom of their lineup stepping up big time. Anthony Marimpietri, Brendan Ray, and Terry Werner were the key contributors, combining for four of the team’s seven hits. They managed to drive in four runs and score one themselves.

The Tigers got things rolling in the second inning when Werner knocked a single to bring in the first run. Ray kept the momentum going with another RBI single in the third to double the lead.

On the mound, Sully O’Donnell delivered a strong performance for Howland, giving up just one unearned run over seven innings, despite allowing nine hits. He struck out four and walked three. Boardman’s starter, Landon Whippo, had a tougher day, allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits over six innings.

Marimpietri, hitting from the nine spot, was clutch, driving in two runs. Ray, hitting seventh, showed the depth of Howland’s lineup by going 2-for-3 at the plate. Werner not only contributed with his bat but also swiped two bases, adding to the Tigers’ aggressive base running.

Boardman managed to put up nine hits, with Grayson Eicher and Tyler Kirlik each grabbing two. Marty Stachowicz drove in their only run of the game.

Next, Boardman will return home to host the undefeated Poland Bulldogs, while the Tigers hit the road to take on Lakeview on Thursday, looking to keep their winning streak alive.
