RED DEVILS FIRE UP ON SENIOR NIGHT

STRUTHERS,OH-  On a night to recognize the Red Devil Seniors, Kosta Patris was a beast on the mound, throwing a gem with 10 strikeouts as Memorial Red Devils edged out Chaney 3-2 on Friday. Patris kept his cool, allowing just three hits and two runs through seven solid innings, with just one walk.

Pitchers from both teams brought their A-game, with Memorial’s arms notching 10 strikeouts and Chaney’s lineup sitting down 11.

Chaney struck first, scoring in the opening frame on a fielder’s choice off B Johnson. But Memorial didn’t let that rattle them. Bobby Ramirez grounded out in the second to even the score.

Chaney nudged ahead again in the fifth, thanks to a clutch single by l Moon. Not to be outdone, Memorial capitalized on a Chaney error in the same inning to tie things up at 2-2.

The Red Devils took the lead for good in the sixth when Ramirez came through with another crucial RBI single, making it 3-2.

Johnson started for Chaney, and despite a solid effort with 11 strikeouts over six innings, unearned runs allowed Memorial to grab the win.

Duan Reynolds was on point for Memorial, leading the hit parade with two knocks in three at-bats. Ramirez, besides tying the game, was key on the defensive end too. The base paths were basically a sprinting track for Memorial, who stole a whopping 14 bases, with Patris, Pano Kolidakis, and Avey Vazquez each swiping multiple bags.

For Chaney, Johnson added an RBI, while B Polk, D Pagan, and Moon each bagged a hit.

Memorial now looks to carry this momentum into their next showdown at Liberty on Monday.

TIGERS CLAW PAST GIRARD

HOWLAND, OH- Both squads brought their A-game to the mound on Friday, but Howland Tigers edged out Girard 3-1 in a tight contest.

Brendan Ray took the hill for Howland and went the distance, chalking up 21 outs. Girard initially broke through in the fourth inning after a wild pitch allowed them to score.

The Tigers roared back in the bottom half of the same inning, taking the lead for good at 3-1. Terry Werner kicked off the rally with a clutch single, Isaiah Burgess grounded out to send a runner home, and Anthony Marimpietri added a key RBI single.

Ray was stellar, bagging the win by holding Girard to just one unearned run on five hits while striking out nine over seven innings. Jaden Royal absorbed the loss for Girard, giving up three runs across six innings, managing only one strikeout and handing out four walks.

The Tigers showcased some solid hitting, with Luca Fronzaglio, Brayden Kovarik, Marimpietri, Ray, and Werner each bagging a hit. Marimpietri, Werner, and Burgess each notched an RBI. Defensively, Howland was on point, turning two double plays to stifle any Girard rallies.

For Girard, leadoff hitter Will Hynes was the bright spot, going 3-for-4 and swiping two bases, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback. Camron Herrick was a standout in the field, getting involved in three key plays.

Howland looks to keep the momentum rolling as they head to Austintown-Fitch on Monday.

CHAMPION STALLS ON THE ROAD

On Friday night, Champion faced a tough road challenge against New Castle, ultimately falling short in a 4-0 contest.

Despite out-hitting New Castle 6-5, Champion struggled to bring runners home and capitalize on scoring opportunities.

At the plate, Carson Fife, Dylan Howell, Zach Morris, Bradley Quinby, Carter Boggs, and Konner Reed each contributed a hit for Champion, but they were unable to convert those hits into runs.

On the mound, Dylan Howell pitched 5 innings for Champion, allowing 4 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 5 batters.

LISBON LEAVES EAST FEELING BLUE

LISBON, OH- Brady Carpenter was on a roll, snagging three hits as the Lisbon Blue Devils steamrolled East 10-0 on Friday. Carpenter set the tone with singles in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, proving to be a key player in the lineup.

The Blue Devils hit the scoreboard first in the second inning, capitalizing on a fielder’s choice by Gage Owens that allowed a run to score, despite a tough pitch from Francisco Rodriguez Santos. The real damage came in the fourth inning, where the Blue Devils hammered out five runs on five hits. Contributions came from Ryan Carpenter with a double, Aiden Myers grounding out to bring in a run, and Bryce Esarey and Marc Moore each adding singles that scored runs.

On the mound, Brady Carpenter was just as impressive, shutting down East with a one-hit, zero-run performance over five innings, where he struck out nine and walked three. Rodriguez Santos, on the other hand, struggled a bit for East, giving up six runs (two earned) across four innings.

The Blue Devils were sharp throughout, tallying ten hits with Moore picking up two of them. They kept it clean in the field too, not making a single error, with Logan Sturgeon leading with four defensive plays.

For East, Jordan Brown managed their only hit, going 1-for-1, while Oscar Agosto nabbed two bases.

Next up, the Lisbon Blue Devils are headed to Lowellville on Saturday, looking to carry their momentum forward.

HUBBARD HOLDS STRONG

In a back-and-forth battle on Friday night, Hubbard held on for a hard-fought 7-6 victory over Warren Harding.

The Hubbard offense came out swinging, led by Braydon Songer who went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Jonny Adamson contributed with a 1-for-2 performance, driving in 1 RBI, drawing 1 walk, and scoring 1 run. Gabe Rusnak added 2 RBIs, while Andrew Kali went 2-for-4 at the plate.

On the mound, Jonny Adamson pitched 6 solid innings for Hubbard, allowing 7 hits and 5 earned runs while tallying 3 strikeouts. AJ Cheney came in for relief in the seventh inning, pitching a scoreless frame with 1 hit and 3 strikeouts.

Despite Warren Harding’s late surge, scoring 3 runs in the sixth and seventh innings, Hubbard’s pitching and defense held strong to secure the win.

HEARTLAND ABLE TO HANDLE THE BLUE JAYS

COLUMBIANA OH- Heartland Christian displayed their offensive firepower on Friday night, overpowering Jackson Milton in a 14-6 victory.

Leading the charge for Heartland’s offense was Jake Walker, who went 3-for-4 with an impressive 4 RBIs. Seth Walker contributed with a 1-for-2 performance, driving in 2 RBIs, scoring 2 runs, and drawing 1 walk. Paul Bender added to the onslaught, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and 1 walk, while Brett Walker went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and crossing the plate 3 times.

On the mound, Will Morgan delivered a stellar performance for Heartland, pitching a complete game of 7 innings, allowing just 6 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 6 batters.

Jackson Milton’s efforts at the plate was valiant, with Landon Workman going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored, and Cayden Mitchell contributing 2 RBIs and scoring 1 run on his 2-for-3 performance.

BAILEY’S BIG DAY KEEPS THE CATS AT BAY

SALEM, OH- Lance Baileyput on a show,  racking up three hits as the Salem Quakers cruised to a 10-0 shutout against the Struthers Wildcats on Friday. Bailey was everywhere, knocking singles in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.

The Quakers set the tone early, jumping ahead in the first inning after Troy Gibson drew a walk that brought in a run. They tacked on another in the second when Carson Rhodes grounded out, but the real explosion came in the sixth inning. They unleashed five runs off seven hits, with Bailey, Trenton McCoy, and Austin Chaffin delivering big hits to drive in runs.

McCoy was stellar on the mound, tossing a gem by allowing just two hits and zero runs over six innings, fanning eight. On the other side, Michael Scavnicky had a rough go, giving up eight runs across five innings for the Wildcats.

The Quakers’ bats were hot, amassing a total of 21 hits. McCoy went a perfect 4-for-4, leading the charge, while Chaffin, Gibson, and Bailey each knocked in two runs. The team was aggressive on the bases, swiping six bags, with Rhodes stealing two himself.

For Struthers, Scavnicky and Eddie Bradley managed to pick up a hit each in a tough outing where they also turned a double play.

Next, the Quakers are set to face the Cardinal Huskies on Saturday. With momentum on their side, they’re looking to keep the wins coming.

LAKEVIEW HANGS ON TO WIN OVER NILES

NILES, OH- Nathan Paolucci was a hit machine, snagging three hits in four at-bats, as Lakeview Bulldogs edged out McKinley 7-6 on Friday. Paolucci was everywhere, with a single in the fourth, a double in the first, and another single in the third.

Niles wasn’t going down without a fight, though. After falling behind by four runs in the fourth inning, they rallied back, stringing together a couple of singles and a double to close the gap.

Lakeview first got on the scoreboard with Nolan Toth’s single in the second inning. They added another run in the third when Andrew Brown grounded out.

Jackson Uphoff claimed the win for Lakeview, navigating through five and two-thirds innings while giving up six runs on seven hits. Brixton Gilmour was saddled with the loss for McKinley, despite pitching a complete game, where he allowed seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits. Brown secured the save for Lakeview.

Lakeview tallied 11 hits in total, with Brown and Toth both having multi-hit games. The Bulldogs were aggressive on the bases, stealing seven bags in total, with Paolucci and Hayden Newton each swiping more than one.

McKinley put up a good fight at the plate too, with nine hits. Kristopher Hrosar, Tyler Williams, and Nick Clark led the charge, each grabbing two hits. Hrosar and Clark also each drove in two runs.

Next up, Lakeview will host Struthers on Monday.

CLIPPERS SAY NO-NO TO LEETONIA

COLUMBIANA, OH- The Columbiana Clippers cruised to a 10-0 victory and combined no-hitter over Leetonia on Friday, with a huge second inning that saw them rack up seven runs. Avery Young hit a triple to bring in a run, Hunter Davanzo got plunked with a pitch for an RBI, Ian Less blasted a triple to clear the bases with four runs, and Devin Daugherty capped it off with a sacrifice fly.

The action started early when Daugherty kicked off the scoring with a solo inside-the-park homer in the first inning. Columbiana tacked on another in the third when Cameron Clancy grounded out to bring in a run.

On the mound, Anthony Hall was lights out for Columbiana, throwing three hitless, scoreless innings and striking out five. Cj Faulknee suffered the loss for Leetonia, giving up eight runs over just one inning. Sam Inboden came in relief for Columbiana and kept the shutout going with two more hitless innings, adding three strikeouts.

Ian Less was the big hitter for Columbiana, driving in three runs and going 1-for-3. Alex Eusebio also stood out with two hits and a couple of stolen bases. Defensively, the Clippers were flawless, not committing a single error, and turned a double play to keep things tight. Davanzo was particularly active, handling the most chances in the field.

 

CANFIELD SLAMS THE DOOR SHUT ON THE DUKES

ALLIANCE OH- Canfield’s defense held strong on Friday night as they secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Marlington. Despite a late surge from the Dukes in the bottom of the 7th inning, the Cardinals managed to slam the door shut to seal the win.

Leading the charge for Canfield’s offense was Michael Patellis, who went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Zain Jadallah also contributed, going 1-for-3 and crossing the plate once, while Anthony Groner added a hit to the scoreboard. Tanner Stricko drew a walk and scored a run.

On the mound, Noah Anzevino started for Canfield, pitching 3 solid innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 3 batters. Will Murphy came in as relief and delivered an outstanding performance, pitching 3 innings without allowing a hit or an earned run while tallying 3 strikeouts.
