Rebels Swept Under, Wildcats Reign

(STRUTHERS,OH) The Crestview Rebels went into Friday night expecting a physical game against the Wildcats from Struthers. Defense dominated the first half of action with both teams heading to half scoreless.
The second half opened up with much more excitement with the Rebels recovering a squib kick in Wildcat territory. However, the Rebels weren’t able to do much with the ball but would later get on the scoreboard with a 36-yard field goal from Andrew Yanssens.
The Wildcats would quickly respond with a fast-paced drive led by their bell cow, Willie Mitchell, who would cap the drive off with an 8-yard touchdown run. The Wildcats would add a 2-point conversion to make the game 8-3 in favor of Struthers. Mitchell would finish the day with 81 yard rushing on 15 attempts.
Late in the fourth, the Rebels would get something going courtesy of their own feature back and Yanssens would help lead the Rebels down the field, finding the end zone from 4 yards out to give the Rebs the 9-8 lead inside 3 minutes. Yanssens went over 100 yards for the Rebels for the second week in a row finishing with 22 rushes for 162 yards and a touchdown.
The lead wouldn’t be held long, though, and on the next offensive series the Wildcats Nick Adams would take a wide receiver sweep 80 yards for the touchdown with 2:26 to go. Another two-point conversion made the game 16-9 in favor of the Wildcats.
The Rebels were down but not out, however, an Andrew Yassens fumble with the Rebels driving would crush the Rebels hope for a comeback.
The Rebels failed to capitalize on opportunities on the Wildcats side of the field and they ending up dropping a close one to Struthers 16-9.
The Rebels will look for their second win of the season next Friday at home against Akron North at 7:00 PM on YSNLive.com.
