SCRAPPERS COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT

NILES OH- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell short of a comeback, losing 4-2 to the Trenton Thunder on Sunday afternoon in the concluding game of a three-game series.

Jacob Remily started on the mound for Mahoning Valley, while the Thunder countered with Drew Christo. Britton Beeson got Trenton on the board first in the top of the second by drawing a bases-loaded walk. The next batter, Nathan Archer, delivered an RBI single, making it 2-0 Trenton after two innings.
Following a few scoreless innings from both squads, the Thunder doubled their lead with a two-run double by Ryland Zaboroski, giving Trenton a 4-0 edge. In the bottom of the seventh, Mahoning Valley got on the board with an RBI groundout by Tripp Clark, scoring John Taylor from third and cutting the Thunder’s lead to 4-1.

The Scrappers attempted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth when Jared Quandt hit an RBI double, making it 4-2. Tripp Clark then singled to put the tying run on first, but Cristofer Cespedes struck out the next batter to end the game and record the save for Trenton.

Both teams have an off day on Monday. When they return to action, Mahoning Valley (9-14) will travel to West Virginia (9-13) on Tuesday, July 2nd, with a 6:30 p.m. start. Meanwhile, Trenton (10-12) will also be on the road on Tuesday, starting a four-game home-and-away series with Frederick (11-10).
