SOUTHERN SURVIVES A SCARE BY THE BEARS

SALINEVILLE OH- Southern kicked off the new basketball season with an intense EOAC battle against Leetonia, securing a hard-fought victory with a final score of 67-65. Despite the Bears facing challenges in the league the previous season, they presented a formidable challenge for Southern, making the contest a closely contested affair.

Markell Smith led Southern’s scoring effort with 17 points, complemented by contributions from Noah Chase with 13 points, Mason Pitts adding 11 points, Yago Alonso chipping in 9 points, and Jacob McCurdy with 7 points. The collective effort showcased Southern’s ability to respond to challenges and secure a crucial win.

Leetonia, led by Carson Brock’s impressive game-high 29 points, demonstrated resilience throughout the game. CJ Faulkner contributed 17 points, and Ashbee Merritt added 6 points. The spirited competition between Southern and Leetonia highlighted the competitive nature of the EOAC.
