BOARDMAN IS BRINGING HOME A STATE BANNER

IRONTON OH- Julia Putko struck out 17 batters as she led past Wheelersburg 5-3 on Thursday in the winner take all State Championship. Putko surrendered zero hits and three runs over six innings while walking three. Putko hasn’t given up a hit since July 1st in their first district matchup with Canfield.

Boardman opened the scoring in the first after Vanessa Torres singled, scoring one run.

Wheelersburg scored on a passed ball, which helped Wheelersburg tie the game at one in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second, Boardman broke up the tie when an error scored one run. Then a passed ball followed to extend the lead to 3-1.

Boardman added two runs in the third. Gabrielle Price grounded out, making the score 5-1.

Torres and Putko were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Boardman while hitting back-to-back. Torres led the lineup with one run batted in. The infielder went 1-for-1 on the day. Boardman had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.

BOARDMAN FALLS JUST SHY OF A STATE TITLE

IRONTON OH- Boardman fell 2-1 in a heartbreaker to Wheelersburg on Wednesday in the state championship despite out-hitting them three to zero.

Julia Putko struck out 13 batters on the day, and threw yet another no hitter in the tournament. She surrendered zero hits and two runs over six innings while walking two.

Kailey Hughes walked, which helped Boardman tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.

Kailey led Boardman 10u District 2023 with one run batted in. Mia Davies had a great day at the plate going 2-2 and scoring the lone Boardman run.  Putko also racked a hit for Boardman.

BOARDMAN PLACES THEMSELVES IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Julia Putko struck out 15 batters as the starting pitcher led Boardman past local rival Canfield All Stars 2-0 on Tuesday to put themselves in the state championship. Putko threw yet another no hitter surrendering zero hits and zero runs over six innings while walking two.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Boardman pitchers struck out 15, while Canfield sat down 12.

Boardman opened the scoring in the fifth after Putko tripled, scoring one run.

Klara Edenfield took the loss for Canfield. She went five innings, surrendering one run on two hits, striking out 10 and walking one.

Vanessa Torres and Putko were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Boardman. Julia led the offense with one run batted in. She went 1-for-2 on the day. Boardman  was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Audrey Huff had the most chances in the field with 15.

Boardman advances to state championship, Canfield will play in an elimination game to try and meet back up with them for the winner take all title game.

BOARDMAN CONTINUES TO DOMINATE AT STATE

IRONTON OH- Boardman’s 10u softball team won big yet again at state over Ashtabula this time by the score of 15-0 on Sunday.

Boardman jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored one run, and Julia Putko hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs.

Boardman scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Sylvie Chmiflewski singled, scoring one run, Gabrielle Price tripled, scoring three runs, and Putko doubled, scoring one run.

Boardman then added seven more runs in the bottom of the third inning on four hits. Sveva Ceccarani drew a walk, scoring one run, Chmiflewski singled, scoring two runs, Josie Fidler singled, scoring two runs, and Audrey Huff hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs.

Rylynne Scriber earned the win for Boardman. The starting pitcher continued Boardman’s no hit streak completing one on Sunday, she anlso gave up zero runs over three innings, striking out nine and walking two.

Boardman 10u District 2023 amassed 12 hits in the game. Price, Fiddler, and Putko each collected two hits for Boardman. Price and Putko were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs. Boardman had patience at the plate, piling up five walks for the game.

BOARDMAN MAKES THEIR PRESENCE KNOWN AT STATE

IRONTON OH- Julia Putko struck out 17 batters as her domination in the circle led Boardman to an 8-1 victory on Saturday in their first game at the state tournament. Putko completed her third straight no hitter and allowed one run over six innings while walking three.

Boardman scored five runs in the sixth inning on the way to victory. Josie Fiddler doubled, scoring two runs, and Audrey Huff doubled, scoring two runs.

Boardman got on the board in the top of the first inning after Gabrielle Price singled, scoring one run, and Vanessa Torres grounded out, scoring two runs.

Huff, Fiddler, and Price each collected one hit for Boardman. Huff and Fiddler were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs to steer the offense. Boardman worked the count all day, amassing six walks. Boardman will continue their state run on Sunday at noon.

ANOTHER PUTKO NO HITTER PROPELS BOARDMAN TO A DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

BOARDMAN OH- Julia Putko was dominant in the circle yet again on Tuesday as she threw her second no hitter in as many days. She rang up 14 strikeouts in Boardman’s 4-0 victory over Canfield  to take the championship banner. Putko gave up zero hits and zero runs over six innings while walking two.

Boardman got on the board in the first inning after Putko drew a walk, scoring one run.

Klara Edenfield opened the game for Canfield. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out nine and walking four.

Boardman piled up eight hits in the game. Siveva Ceccarani, Audrey Huff, and Vanessa Torres each collected two hits for Boardman. Gabrielle Price, Putko, and Torres each drove in one run. Boardman was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Huff had the most chances in the field with 16.

BOARDMAN WINS A PAIR TO GET A CHANCE AT THE TITLE

BOARDMAN OH-  Julia Putko dazzled for Boardman on Monday as she struck out 16 batters as the starting pitcher led her team past Austintown 4-1 in an elimination game. Putko tossed a 6 inning no hitter.

Boardman got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Audrey Huff singled in a run, and another run scored on a passed ball.

Addison Weidenthal led things off in the circle for Austintown. The starting pitcher allowed nine hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking one.

Boardman tallied nine hits in the game. Huff, Josie Fiddler, and Maggie Benson each collected two hits.  Hoff led Boardman with two runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-2 on the day.

Quinn Barringer paced Austintown with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. Austintown  was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Julia Jourdan had the most chances in the field with seven.

The win advanced Boardman to play Canfield later in the evening in the championship round.

Vanessa Torres drove in five runs on three hits to lead Boardman past Canfield 12-2 in Game 1 of the championship. Torres tripled in the second inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the fifth inning, scoring two.

Boardman scored seven runs in the first inning on the way to victory. Gabrielle Price singled, scoring two runs, Putko doubled, scoring one run, McKenna Christiansen singled, scoring one run, Siveva Ceccarani singled, scoring two runs, and a passed ball scored also one run.

Canfield opened the scoring in the first after Bethy Zorella grounded out, scoring one run.

Huff stepped in the circle first for Boardman. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking five.

Klara Edenfield began the game for Canfield. The starting pitcher surrendered 10 hits and 10 runs (nine earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking three.

Boardman piled up 13 hits in the game. Huff, Fiddler, Christiansen, and Ceccarani each collected multiple hits for Boardman. Boardman was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Price had the most chances in the field with six.

Boardman and Canfield will now play Tuesday night in an if necessary game. That game is scheduled to be played at the Field of Dreams on field S2 at 6:00.

SPARTANS OWN FIRST GAME AT STATE

ENGLEWOOD OH- The Boardman 12u squad won big over Portsmouth 10-0 on Saturday in their first game of the state tournament..

Boardman were the first to get on the board in the second when Benny Malaska hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Boardman scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Harley Booms singled, scoring one run, Ricky Gozur singled, scoring one run, Gavin Sentner grounded out, scoring one run, and Dominic Italiano doubled, scoring two runs.

Jude Coffman earned the win for Boardman. He  allowed one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking none.

Italiano went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Boardman  in hits. Boardman didn’t commit a single error in the field. Jackson Kelty had the most chances in the field with six.

BOARDMAN WILL FACE FAMILIAR FOE ONE STEP FROM FINALS

IRONTON OH- Boardman 12U softball won state a season ago with a dominating win over Clay.  This year the two teams would meet again as Clay desperately wanted revenge.  Although Boardman didn’t pull off a run rule this time around, they still showed Clay what a power they were in the state of Ohio. They put themselves one game closer to a repeat championship with a 5-2 victory.

Emma Davies led Boardman’s offense as she went 1-2 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.  Grace Rinaldi also got herself an RBI on a 1-2 day.  Taylor Watts put in a 1-2 effort and crossed the plate for Boardman.  Vanessa Torres doubled in her only at bat of the game.

Davies was also dominant in the circle. She gave up 2 earned runs on just 1 hit. She struck 9 while only walking a pair.

Boardman will now play local rival Austintown on Tuesday at 3.30 with a trip to the state finals on the line.  The two teams split their district matchups. Boardman won 3-1, and Austintown came away with a 7-0 victory.

BOARDMAN LEAVES NO DOUBT; TAKES DISTRICT 2 CROWN

BOARDMAN OH- Boardman’s 12u baseball squad has been on a tear this week in the District 2 little league tournament. They came in to Monday night’s championship matchup with Poland undefeated and beating their opponents by a combined 28-0 in 2 games.  Coming off a 16-0 win over Poland to lock in their ticket, it was Poland they’d have to beat again to secure a title.  Boardman proved how good they were by cruising to a 12-2 win to take the district championship.

Chase Willis gets the credit for busting the doors wide open for Boardman’s offense. His two run double set the tone for the bats.  Willis would go on to turn in a 2-3 day with a triple, double, and 3 RBI.
