YOUNGSTOWN OH- Mooney boys basketball is off to a tremendous start to the season. After a comeback win over South Range on Saturday, the Cardinals are 3-0. If you are wondering what has attributed to this success to start the season, you should look no forward than this exclusive discussion with head coach Carey Palermo.

Coach Palermo took the time out of his day to call in to YSN’s Running Point to talk to Ron Potesta. They have a great discussion about the development of basketball in the area and what the tournaments may look like this season. MOONEY BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP4 WITH CAREY PALERMO)

The Cardinals are in the final stretch of their regular season. A season that has seen tremendous highs, and frustrating lows. Only four games remaining until the tournament starts and Coach Palermo is refusing to let his players become complacent. Despite not having school, Coach had his boys come early Friday morning for a shoot around and scouting session prior to their game tonight against a red hot Warren JFK team.

Nate Keiper caught up with Coach following this shoot around, and covered all the bases for what is left of the regular season for Mooney. Coach Palermo discusses it all; the game on Tuesday against Chaney, how important mental toughness is, and why he loves playing back to back games. Tournament time means tensions are high, and those best prepared for those moments are the ones who succeed. And the Cardinals certainly fit the bill. A strong mid point of the season for the Cardinals has taken a sharp turn as the boys have lost two straight, both at home. Despite forcing overtime against East, Mooney now finds themselves below .500 again with only seven games left before the tournament. But this Friday, the Ursuline Fighting Irish are coming to town, and nothing could turn a season around like sweeping your arch rival.
