CORLL SHINES FOR DURA EDGE

STRUTHERS, Ohio

Jake Corll went the distance for Dura Edge as they picked up their 3rd win of the season to get above the .500 mark for the first time this year. The Austintown Fitch right hander delivered 7 innings of 3 hit 1 walk baseball, managing to strike out 9 in the process.

Corll, to his credit, worked through some defensive struggles of the Dura Edge infield. Fiveseparate times, Athletix runners, whom all reached by an error, would make their way into scoring position. The Dura Edge starter worked his team out of trouble all but 1 time, allowing a single run to come across in the sixth, on an error.

While Corll was stellar on the mound, his victory did not come without offensive help. A 9-hit effort from Dura Edge, highlighted by Jarrod Malagise’s3-for-3 effort, provided more than enough run support to pick up the victory 5-1 over Athletix.

TOP PERFORMERS:

DURA EDGE

Jarrod Malagise – 3-for-3, 1 double, 1 triple, 1 run scored

PITCHING LEADS FALCONS TO SHUT OUT WIN OVER CREEKSIDE

STRUTHERS, Ohio

In what started as an absolute pitchers duel, the Astro Falcons outlasted Creekside Fitness to stay undefeated on the season and improve their record to 5-0.

Getting the nod for the Astro Falcons was Tommy Beam, a West Virginia commit. Beam, standing at 6 foot 7, walked the first 2 batters he faced. How did he respond? Probably exactly how you’d envision a power 5 commit would, by fanning the next 3 batters he saw to end the inning.

Next, it was time for the Creekside starter, Tyler Switalski, to take the mound for his team. Unlike his counterpart, Switalski whiffed the first batter he faced before plunking the 2 spot in Clay Wiesen. How did Switalski respond? Well I forgot to mention he’s also a division 1 commit(Gardner-Webb), so exactly as you’d expect, by striking out the next 2 batters he faced.

The strikeouts continued for both starters as they worked through the end of the 4th, sitting down a combined 17 batters before their nights were over. Fortunately for Beam, his night ended better than Switalski.

Not to say that the lefty Switalski left on a sour note, but after walking the leadoff batter in the 5th, a sacrifice bunt followed by a pop up to the catcher, that actually saw the runner tag from second when the 3rd base bag was unoccupied, hadJoe Roth just 90 feet away from making things 2-0.

Back at the top of the Astro lineup, Ty Casciato promptly delivered with a base hit up the middle to bring across Roth. Casciato’s hit was the first of the ball game for either side.

Switalski would then give up a hit to Wiesen before his night was ended with the score at just 2-0. The wheels would then fall off for Creekside, as the relief pitcher would immediately walk the only 4 batters he faced, giving Astro their 7-0 lead they would end the game with before the bottom of the 6th even started due to the time limit.

TOP PERFORMERS:

ASTRO

Tommy Beam 4 innings pitched, 0 hits, 7 Ks, 0 runs

Ty Casciato – 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base

CREEKSIDE

Tyler Switalski – 4 2/3 innings pitched, 2 hits, 3 earned runs, 10 Ks

Thomas Koch – 1-for-2, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
