CRESTVIEW VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3) WITH ALISHA AUER

COLUMBIANA OH- Crestview is in the middle of the best stretch of years any athletics program has ever had in the school system. The Rebels have won their fourth straight district championship.  No other program has done that before at Crestview. This year might have been the hardest one yet. Four state ranked teams found themselves in Grand Valley. Crestview was the last one standing. With wins over Lakeview and Kirtland, Crestview is officially used to playing high level volleyball. Crestview has advanced into the regional semifinals where they’ll meet Lake Catholic in Barberton on Thursday. That game is scheduled for 6:00.

Rebels head coach Alisha Auer was kind enough to sit down with Anthony Hartwig and recap their district run in detail, and preview their upcoming regional matchup.  They also talk about some key under the radar players who have stepped up big in the district tournament, and all season.  Check out the latest Coach’s Corner with Alisha Auer.

URSULINE IRISH FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 11) WITH DAN REARDON

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – It’s Week 12 of the high school football season in the state of Ohio, and the number of teams remaining in the state playoffs are quickly dwindling, but the Ursuline Irish are one of those teams still left. The Irish defeated Hawken commandingly in the first round of the Division III playoffs, knocking off the Hawks by a score of 43-12. The Irish used a 28-6 first-half advantage to build a gap early and never look back. With the win, the Irish are granted another home game at Stambaugh Stadium this Friday Night as they play host to the Tallmadge Blue Devils. The Blue Devils knocked off VASJ 21-7 in Round 1, and hold a 9-2 record. Tallmadge is a team that will like to throw the ball a lot, as they attempt over 26 passes per game. The Blue Devils are led offensively by Wisconsin commit Collin Dixon, who has been the top target out of a talented receiving core, hauling in 72 passes this season for 1325 yards and 18 touchdowns.

In this week’s coaches’ corner, Ursuline Head Coach Dan Reardon talks about last week’s performance against Hawken, the boost of getting one more home game this season, what to look forward to in this week’s matchup with Tallmadge, and more!

STRUTHERS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3) WITH JOHN BAYUK

STRUTHERS OH- The 2000s era to now has been up and down for the struthers wildcats. After the 1999 season where the team finished 7-5 under Gary Zetts, the team went 12 seasons without making the playoffs until Curt Kuntz second season with the team. After Kuntz left in 2019 to be on the coaching staff for the Miami Dolphins under then head coach Brian Flores, the team needed a new leader. Bring in John Bayuk, who was the defensive coordinator under Kuntz the last three seasons. He also coached for the Campbell Memorial Red Devils under his father/ Hall Of Fame coach Jeff Bayuk who is now the head coach at Warren JFK.

His first season was tough when he was appointed as just two months in, the season for the wildcats and all high school sports looked to have been in jeopardy after the lockdown of the pandemic in 2020. The season did continue as planned a little differently with their only being six games and everyone making the playoffs. In his first season, the Wildcats finished two and five, losing to Salem in the playoffs 34-19. The next season, the Wildcats finished 4-6, missing the new 16 seed playoffs. This year, looked to have been the same, until Bayuk and his talented group of kids won five straight and last week beating Poland 35-7, locking them into the playoffs with eighth seed.

On this coach’s corner, Ian O’Brien talks with coach John Bayuk about the season, the big win to lock them into the playoffs and what to expect against Edgewood this Friday. The 8th seed Wildcats (6-4) will host the 9th seed Edgewood Warriors (6-4) 7pm at Laddie J Fedor Field. You can catch the game on YSN under NE8 and Struthers.

EDISON FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH MIKE COLLOPY

RICHMOND OH- The Edison Wildcats have been a team with quite the story over the course of the past few seasons. A team that in 2019 was in a rebuilding point in their program. Going 0-10 in the regular season and going through rough waters during the campaign. In the odd 2020 COVID season, The Wildcats captured four victories, walking away with a well-improved record of 4-6. By 2021, Edison was in position to compete, winning seven games in the regular season and punching their ticket to the playoff as the #9. Dropping their playoff matchup to Manchester in 2021, questions remained in The Wildcat program became “how do they get better from here?”

A 9-0 start to the regular season in 2022 for Edison has them on the cusp of a complete turnaround in a four year span. Matching up with Indian Creek (1-8) for Week 10, The Wildcats look for an undefeated regular season. Already guaranteeing a home playoff matchup with the lowest possible seed for The Wildcats being #7 no matter the outcome of Week 10. Coach Collopy and crew will look to complete the regular season slate on top, with a defense that has shut opponents down throughout the year. Catch this EXCLUSIVE YSN interview with Coach Collopy, as The Edison Skipper stopped by Running Point to discuss the season so far, the goals going into playoffs, and the improvements needed to make a run.

CANFIELD VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH KRISTA NESBITT

CANFIELD OH- The tournament always brings a sense of urgency to locker rooms. That is especially true for Canfield. Their roster is full of seniors who simply don’t want to say goodbye to their season.  They’ve spent all year sharpening their skills against a brutal schedule. Canfield may have dropped down to division 2, but their schedule still reflects that of a division 1 school. That schedule has zero easy wins on it.  The Cardinals have brought an energetic drive to their practices leading up to tournament time.  They got their first round win over Ravenna and now look forward to a game against Perry.  That will be Thursday at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin.

Canfield head coach Krista Nesbitt took some time after practice to sit down with Anthony Hartwig to talk about the season, and their upcoming path to a district championship.  They also break down the great regular season the Cardinals have put together.  Check out Episode 2 of Coach’s Corner With Krista Nesbitt only on YSN!

CRESTVIEW VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH ALISHA AUER

COLUMBIANA OH- Crestview didn’t miss a beat this season. Coming off a season where they were one of the most dominant programs around, they continued to roll in 2022. The Rebels finished with a 20-2 record on the year, and completed yet another MVAC championship.  They didn’t lose a set inside of the conference.  They lost 2 of their last 4 games though, raising some eye brows.
