EAGLES TURN UP THE THROTTLE IN THE SECOND HALF

HANOVERTON OH- In a clash of two formidable teams each boasting seven wins, Warren JFK showcased a commanding offensive display in the second half to overpower United with an 85-49 triumph. The game held high stakes as both squads were evenly matched with seven victories apiece entering the contest.

The first half set the stage for an intense battle, with JFK holding a 39-30 lead at halftime. However, it was the explosive offensive surge in the second half that truly defined the game.

Leading the charge for Warren JFK were standout performances from multiple players. Ava Darney led the scoring onslaught with an impressive 22 points, while Didi Ryan contributed 18 points. Gianna Pompelia added 11 points to the tally, with Hannah Myers and Maria Saunders chipping in 10 and 9 points, respectively.

On the opposing side, United fought valiantly with Grace Knight leading the charge, amassing 21 points. Addy Blazer and Sam Lippiatt contributed 8 and 6 points, respectively, while Camryn Cody matched Lippiatt’s 6-point contribution.

The victory propels Warren JFK to an 8-2 record, setting the stage for an exciting upcoming matchup against Southeast at home on January 4th. Meanwhile, United, now standing at 7-2, will resume action on the same day with a game against East Palestine, looking to rebound from this challenging defeat. The clash between these two talented teams showcased the competitive spirit of high school basketball, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter in both Warren JFK and United’s seasons.

RAIDERS FIND WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR

HUBBARD OH- South Range displayed the consistency they’ve been seeking all season, leading from start to finish in a commanding 47-28 triumph against Hubbard.

Gwen Lowry delivered a standout performance for South Range, achieving a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Supporting the scoring effort were Taylor Dado with 11 points, and both Devin Saurwein and Sydney Penick contributing 9 points each.

Hubbard faced a resilient South Range defense, with Khamyah Howell leading the scoring for the team with 9 points, accompanied by Rheanna Barr adding 5 points.

South Range’s well-rounded performance, coupled with a strong defensive showing, propelled them to a significant victory. With this win, South Range moves to a 2-5 record and will aim to build on this momentum in their upcoming road game against Rootstown on Saturday. Hubbard, now at 4-4, will look ahead to a post-Christmas road trip to face Western Reserve on December 29th. The wire-to-wire victory for South Range highlights their improved consistency and sets a positive tone as they approach the midseason mark.

WRESTLING WEDNESDAYS WITH GARY ALTHISER (EP 4) FEATURING NICK BOWSER

The Wrestling season is starting to hear up as the callender inches closer to January.  With our YSN grapplers getting into the groove of the season, we start to see who is going to be separating themselves from the rest.  YSN’s wrestling guru, and the head coach at Wellsville Gary Althiser joins Anthony Hartwig on Running Point for another edition of Wrestling Wednesdays.  They discuss the hot start Beaver Local is out to, West Brach sending their first girls team representative to a match in school history, and much more.

Also in the Episode, special guest Nick Bowser from Hubbard.  Nick is one of the area, and states best heavyweight wrestlers.  His sophomore he missed out on a trip to state thanks to a tough 1-0 decision and last season although he pushed through to Columbus, injuries hampered his ability to shine the way he knows how on that stage.  That just means the lights are ready to shine the brightest in his senior season.  He’s certainly no stranger to big time wrestling. He has clear goals to be the first wrestler to bring a trophy back to Hubbard. The road is long, the journey is tough, but what can’t Bowser do? EAGLES SHINE UNDER THE BIG LIGHTS

CLEVELAND, OH – The Eagles flew high in The Land as they took down the undefeated Bristol Panthers 79-65. While both teams had players who played some of the best basketball of their careers, it was Michael Condoleon and Jaden Rishel who stole the show by both recording their 1,00th career points and then some! 

 

JFK came out on a roll to start things off, after recording turnover after turnover the Eagles found themselves on top 24-15. Condoleon found his first 2 points that would inch him closer to his goal and Rishel would find 5 points as well.

 

The second quarter saw Bristol put up their best offensive performance with 24 points to JFK’s 20. Condoleon, who was just 6 points away from reaching his milestone, hit his first 3-point bucket to get everyone excited in the early goings of the quarter and found his second late in the quarter to stop the clock and cause half the crowd to celebrate. Rishel hit a three, two 2’s and went 2-for-2 at the line putting him at 14 points for the night leaving him with only 7 more points until it was his turn.

 

The second half saw much better defense on both sides and as a result Bristol would get 13 points while JFK scored 18. Rishel would add 4 more points to his total leading us to an exciting fourth while Condoleon went 3-for-4 at the free throw line and hit another 2-pointer.

 

It didn’t take long for Rishel to stop the clock as early on in the fourth he hit the 3 he needed to hit 1,000 career points! He would conclude his night of scoring with two more 2-pointers and ending his night with 25 points. Nico Ciminero went 2-for2 at the line and Condoleon scored 2 more points allowing him to finish with 15 points on the day. 

 

On a day where nearly everything was working for JFK, two of their brightest stars shined as bright as they could and gave Warren the exclamation mark they needed in their victory over Bristol at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse . JFK would improve to 6-1 while Bristol was served their first loss of the season giving them a 6-1 record as well. Bristol will be back in action when they travel to LaBrae on December 22nd at 7:ooPM and JFK will also hit the hardwood on the 22nd when they visit Aquinas at 7:00PM.

HUBBARD FLIES AWAY IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

STRUTHERS OH- Hubbard emerged victorious from a double-overtime thriller on Monday, securing a hard-fought 41-38 win against Struthers.

Claire Murphy led the scoring for Hubbard with 11 points, closely followed by Rheanna Barr contributing 10 points. Khamyah Howell added 8 points, and Phoebe Rusnak chipped in with 7 points, all playing key roles in the team’s success.

On the Struthers side, Ava Croyle led the scoring with 11 points, while Natalie Adams, Katelyn Kimble, and Emma Morris each contributed 5 points.

The win propels Hubbard to a 4-3 record, and they will carry this momentum into their next matchup as they host South Range on Thursday. Struthers, now standing at 1-5, will look to regroup and bounce back as they host Girard on Thursday. The double-overtime thriller adds another exciting chapter to the season for both teams.

 

UNITED CAUSES CHAOS IN THE EOAC

HANOVERTON OH- United stirred up significant chaos in the EOAC on Monday with a stunning 53-43 victory over Columbiana. The Eagles wasted no time, jumping out to an impressive 20-5 lead after the first quarter. This win creates a three-way tie for the top spot in the EOAC between United, Columbiana, and Southern.

Leading the charge for United, Grace Knight scored 14 points, followed closely by Addy Blazer with 13 points. Sam Lippiatt contributed 9 points, while Grayson Kidder and Katie Dees added 8 and 7 points, respectively.

Columbiana, facing a rare setback, saw notable performances from Ellie Venezia, who scored 14 points, and contributions from Evy Rapp and Averi Marshall with 9 and 8 points, respectively.

With this pivotal win, United advances to a 7-1 record and looks ahead to a matchup against JFK on Wednesday, December 27th. Meanwhile, Columbiana, now also at 7-1, will regroup during the holiday break and resume action in the new year, hosting Leetonia on January 4th. The intense competition in the EOAC promises an exciting continuation of the season.

WARRIORS FALL IN TRIPLE OT THRILLER

East Ashtabula- In a riveting clash that will undoubtedly go down in the annals of high school basketball lore, the Edgewood Warriors faced off against the Geneva Eagles in a triple-overtime extravaganza that left fans breathless. The final score of 70-68 in favor of the Geneva Eagles only tells part of the story, as the game unfolded as a gripping narrative of skill, determination, and resilience.

First Three Quarters: A Tightly Contested Affair:

From the opening tip-off, it was clear that both teams came prepared for a battle. The first quarter ended with a deadlock at 10-10, setting the stage for a contest where every possession mattered. The following quarters were no less intense, with each team showcasing their offensive prowess and defensive tenacity.

Overtime Drama: Logan Kray vs. Luke Smith, Round by Round:

As regulation time came to a close with a tied score of 62-62, the game ventured into overtime, signaling the start of a showdown between two standout players. Edgewood’s Logan Kray and Geneva’s Luke Smith took center stage, trading baskets in a mesmerizing display of skill.

Kray, finishing the game with an impressive 24 points, and Smith, leading all scorers with a remarkable 25 points, engaged in a back-and-forth battle that transcended ordinary competition. Their ability to hit clutch shots and keep their teams in the game became the defining narrative of the evening.

The drama unfolded not just in one overtime but stretched into three, with Kray and Smith refusing to let their teams succumb to fatigue or pressure. The gymnasium echoed with cheers and gasps as each possession unfolded, and the two stars traded blows like heavyweight boxers refusing to go down.

Foul Trouble and Player Exodus: The Battle Within the Battle:

The sheer intensity of the contest took its toll on both teams, manifesting in foul trouble that added another layer of complexity to the game. Edgewood’s Jacob Ernst, Mason Thorr, and Brady Andrejack all fouled out in the first overtime, leaving the Warriors shorthanded. Geneva faced similar challenges, with Andrew Oros and Haiden Diemer exiting the game due to fouls during overtime play.

Meanwhile, the Geneva Eagles (3-2) savor the sweet taste of victory as they brace themselves for a formidable challenge against the undefeated Crestwood Red Devils (5-0) at home on December 18, 2023.

For those fortunate enough to witness this triple-overtime saga, the memories created on the court will endure, a testament to the unpredictable and captivating nature of high school basketball.

JFK KEEPS SHOWING THEIR STRENGTH

WARREN OH- Warren JFK continues to make a strong statement on the basketball court, reinforcing their prowess with an impressive 72-43 victory over Mogadore on Friday.

Leading the charge for JFK, Michael Condoleon showcased his scoring prowess with an outstanding 23 points, closely followed by Nick Ryan contributing 21 points and Jaden Rishel adding 13 points to the team’s dominant performance.

With this latest triumph, Warren JFK maintains an unblemished record at 4-0, underscoring their status as a formidable force in the league. Looking ahead, they are set to continue their season on Tuesday, hosting Lutheran West, with eyes on extending their winning streak and further solidifying their reputation.

UNITED REGAINS WINNING WAYS

United swiftly regained their momentum on Thursday night, dispatching Wellsville with a dominant 48-15 victory. The Eagles asserted control right from the start, securing a commanding 22-3 lead in the first quarter.

Leading the charge for United was Grace Knight, who delivered an impressive 17-point performance. Katie Dees contributed 10 points, and Addy Blazer added 8 points, showcasing a well-rounded offensive effort.

On the Wellsville side, Bella Poppleriter managed to score 6 points in the face of United’s strong defensive presence.

With this convincing win, United advances to a 5-1 record and looks forward to carrying that momentum into a crucial league matchup against Columbiana on Monday. Meanwhile, Wellsville, now 4-3, seeks to bounce back as they host East Palestine on Monday, aiming to regroup from Thursday night’s challenging contest.

BLUE DEVILS WIN CLOSE BATTLE

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – In a hard fought battle between two EOAC heavyweights, the Lisbon Blue Devils traveled up to Valley Christian to battle out one of the most exciting games so far this season. The first quarter showcased both offenses taking swings at each other as the Blue Devils went up 18-14. Both teams took turns making impressive scoring runs as neither team seemed to take total control. As the second quarter came and went the two evenly matched opponents played to a stalemate as Lisbon maintained its four point advantage heading to the break, 25-21.

The third quarter featured much of the same as the Eagles did all they could to scratch and claw back into it as Coach Carroll turned up his defensive pressure only to see Lisbon respond to it. As the buzzer sounded, Valley Christian only trailed by three, 33-30 heading to the final frame. The fourth quarter set up to go down as one of the toughest battles yet as Valley Christian came out with an impressive trap to cut the Blue Devils lead to one. That one point lead maintained for a while as both squads hit an offensive dry spell that took up a good chunk of the quarter. Once Lisbon gained their footing, a couple of quick buckets all but wrapped up the victory. One final free throw from Trevor Siefke put Lisbon ahead 42-37 at the final buzzer.

For Valley Christian, Alex Green finished with 13 points and Deion Miller added in 12.

For Lisbon, Hunter Dailey led the way with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Trevor Siefke chipped in with 8 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds. Austin Dailey added in 8 points and 2 steals.

The Lisbon junior varsity team also picked up a victory, 33-29.

Up next for Valley Christian is another tough EOAC match up with the Columbiana Clippers coming to town on Friday night. Lisbon will also return to action on Friday as they will host the Leetonia Bears.
