COLUMBIANA FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 4) WITH BOB SPAITE

Week three was a tough test for the Clippers as they took on the Springfield Tigers but came up short. Week four will be another tough match up for Coach Spaite and his team as they welcome the Indians of Southern Local to town.
Mark Franken, the Voice of Columbiana for YSN, was able to chat with Coach Bob Spaite about what the Clips need to do to get a victory in this week’s episode of Columbiana Football Coach’s Corner.

EAST PALESTINE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 4) WITH TONY FOSTER

Week three saw the Bulldogs and Coach Foster travel up to Campbell to take on the Red Devils. The Bulldogs came out strong and battled all game but unfortunately fell short. Week four will match the Bulldogs up with one of their rivals, as they will travel to Lisbon to take on the Blue Devils.

YSN’s D.J. Yokley caught up with Coach Foster to talk Bulldogs football and to see what Coach Foster and his staff has in store for this Friday’s rivalry game.

WELLSVILLE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 4) WITH MOOSE RAMSEY

Week three proved to be a tough test for Coach Ramsey and the Tigers as they fell 6-0 to a tough Malvern Hornets squad. Week four will not come any easier as the Tigers travel to Leetonia to take on the undefeated Bears in a game that will have significant impact on the EOAC standings.

YSN’s Gary Althiser was able to sit down with Coach Ramsey this week to discuss what his staff took away from the Malvern game and what the Tigers need to do to get back to their winning ways against Leetonia in this episode of Wellsville football coach’s corner.

BULLDOG HEARTBREAKER, EP FALLS IN FIVE TO HEARTLAND

EAST PALESTINE, OH-  The East Palestine Lady Bulldogs came out with their hearts on fire to begin the match against Heartland on Wednesday.  Unfortunately, the Lady Lions were able to respond accordingly, dousing the fire and completing the comeback victory against the red-hot Lady Bulldogs 24-26, 25-20, 19-25, 25-14, 15-8.

Junior Malynn Bistarkey treated her dad to an outstanding performance on his birthday with 12 timely kills and a pair of blocks, earning her Gorby’s Player of the Game.  Olivia Figley continued her streak of success with 9 kills and 5 blocks while McKenna Griffith had 14 points and 6 aces from service.  Morgan Cheurco helped out her team as well with 34 assists.

For Heartland, it was a standout performance for Makayla Osborn with 7 points, 4 aces, 3 blocks, 15 kills, and 20 digs.  Lydia Wilson also filled up the stat sheet with 52 assists, 5 points, 3 kills, 18 digs, and a half-dozen blocks.

Heartland pushes to 12-3 overall while East Palestine falls to 8-5 (6-2.)

The Lady Bulldogs look to protect home court as they get back to EOAC play tomorrow against Lisbon.  EP looks to “White Out” the Dog Pound against their conference foe.  Action is set for around 7pm.

FIGLEY A FORCE, LADY BULLDOGS TOPPLE COLUMBIANA

COLUMBIANA, OH- East Palestine is back on track with a road win against Columbiana on the road.  The Lady Dogs were able to finish their night efficiently in 3 sets against their conference rivals 25-20,25-20, 25-15.

EP Senior, Olivia Figley cemented her bid for Big Dog of the Valley Nominee with a big performance.  Figley had 14 kills and 4 blocks, while Morgan Cheurco had 31 helpers, 8 points and 4 digs.  Paige Snyder had 8 points, 6 kills and 4 digs for the Bulldogs.

Columbiana was led by Marissa Makosky and her 13 digs and 9 assists.  Grace Witmer put up a baker’s dozen in the assist column along with 8 digs and five kills.  Maci Linhart had 20 digs and 4 points.

East Palestine is now 8-4 (6-2) while Columbiana falls to 7-6 (4-5)

The Bulldogs will now play back to back nights at home beginning with Heartland Christian tonight, and Lisbon on Thursday.

CRESTVIEW SHINES IN BATTLE OF AREA’S TOP TEAMS

COLUMBIANA, OH- Before the game, Crestview Volleyball Coach Alisha Auer was quoted as saying “This is a fun team to coach because any player can step up on any day.”   Which is exactly what happened on Saturday during Crestview’s 3-1 victory over state-ranked Wellsville.

The Lady Rebels remain unbeaten(12-0) and are also ranked in the state standings at number 12, but Saturday was about showing how they’ve grown as a team, and the ability to prove themselves as a contender for a state title in 2019.

Crestview touts 8 seniors this year, and seemingly all were on point during Saturday’s match.  Junior, Molly Emch led the way with 16 kills, 2 blocks, and an assist while Tess Neville had 14 kills and 8 digs.  Brenna Auer had 8 kills and 12 digs from the back row while Sidney Rambo had 7 kills and a pair of blocks.  Lucy Montgomery had 30 assists on 60 attempts and sister Amelia had 14 digs and a pair of aces.  Shelby Rambo was awarded the NDC Heating and Cooling Player of the game for her efforts with 6 timely kills, and 6 blocks.

For Wellsville, Emma Smith had 13 kills, Alana Amato had 8, Gia Pucci and Meaghan Nixon had 5 kills, apiece.  Emily McNicol stepped in for her sister with 14 assists, while Greta Cartwright had 16 assists, and Aubri Ramsey had 3 aces and 26 digs as the Libero.

Crestview has all home games this week beginning with Champion on Tuesday.

Coming off a tough loss at the hands of Manchester, Coach Bob Spaite has the Clippers ready to go for their week two match up against the McDonald Blue Devils.

Mark Franken, YSN’s Voice of Columbiana, sat down with Coach Spaite to discuss what he and his staff took away from the Manchester game, as well as, what needs to be done to get in the win column against the Blue Devils in week two.

LISBON BATTLES, TIGERS JUST TOO MUCH

WELLSVILLE, OH- The Lisbon Lady Blue Devils had upset on the mind going into Thursday’s match against Wellsville, and they almost pulled it off.  The Lady Tigers dropped their first set of the season in the conference but were able to bounce back to finish the match 3-1 (25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22.)

Emma Smith led Wellsville with 16 kills and 4 blocks while Alana Amato brought home Player of the Game honors with 14 kills and 3 aces.  Greta Cartwright had 23 assists and three aces, Emily McNicol had 26 helpers while Meaghan Nixon had 5 kills.  Aubri Ramsey also had a fantastic outing with 13 kills, 4 aces, and a pair of blocks.

Maddie Liberati paced Lisbon with 20 kills, 8 points, and 40 digs.  Callie Steed was jumping out of the gym on her way to 13 kills, while defensively had 21 digs.

The 9-1 Lady Tigers are now 7-0 in EOAC play, while Lisbon falls to 6-5 and 4-3.
