SOUTH RANGE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH DAN YEAGLEY (EP 9)

In what will go down as one of the greatest games we’ve ever witnessed, the South Range Raiders left everything they had on the field last Friday Night against St. Clairesville to come up a point shy.

A loss that by no means defined their season, but more represented it in a nutshell.

Meanwhile, there is no time to sulk as Week 10 is upon us, and West Geauga is waiting for an opportunity for a signature win.  We know the Raiders are looking to send the seniors out with a bang.  So, DJ Yokley sits down with Coach Yeagley in this week’s South Range Football Coach’s Corner with Dan Yeagley (EP 9)

THE FIGHT OF FIGLEY

tra·di·tion
/trəˈdiSH(ə)n/
noun
It’s very difficult to stick to traditions in sports culture nowadays.  Today’s athletic society is much more of a ‘standout’ or ‘branding’ opportunity that athletes at all levels see as a platform for personal gain.  One exception remains in East Palestine where tradition stands tall on Friday nights.  From one generation to the next, you know if you see a brown and white “25” coming at you, you know it’s a Figley, and you know you’re in for a long night.
The Figley name is synonymous with East Palestine, and for Bulldog Senior, Elijah Figley, he’s no different.  As opponents line up, their first read of the Bulldog offense is locating Figley, and taking every blade of grass possible, because, within a blink of an eye, the defender is looking at the stitching on the back of Figley’s jersey.
Our Dan Figley caught up with Elijah to discuss plans on and off the field as well as the family name, and the rich tradition that goes along with it.  East Palestine’s Player Profile is: THE FIGHT OF FIGLEY

GIVING THE OPPOSITION FITZ

Dave Fitzer is every football coach’s dream.  He’s the young man with the will and determination to be the “Next Man Up” for your squad.  A position that’s almost more important than the starters, Fitzer has made a career out of his position flexibility on the offensive and defensive lines.

While most have to study for one position, Fitzer is doing homework on multiple so in the event that his number is called, the team doesn’t skip a beat.

A dynamo on the front lines, Dave also gets it done in the classroom and introduces us to the teachers that made the biggest impact on him on this episode of South Range Raider Player Profile: GIVING THE OPPOSITION FITZ

COLUMBIANA FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH BOB SPAITE (EP 8)

It’s Week 10 in the OHSAA, and my goodness, we have an unbelievable matchup in Columbiana this week!  The arch-rival East Palestine Bulldogs make their way into town in one of the area’s top showdowns.

Can the Clippers rebound from a tough trip south to the Wigwam?  Can the traveling trophy find a home in Columbiana?

We’ll find out Friday at 7, but before you tune in, catch up with YSN’s Mark Franken and Coach Spaite in Columbiana Football Coach’s Corner (EP 8)

READY, WILLING, AND ABEL

We all grow up with that one friend who serves as a catalyst amongst the entire high school.  The one guy or gal that always has your back, and willing to crack a joke when it’s needed.  At the same time, that friend also serves as a rock to lean on when times get shaky.

Meet that friend: East Palestine’s Abel Figley.

On the football field, he possesses size, skill, and leadership.  Off the field, he is the center of attention and the guy who sets the trend for the brown and white.  You can find Abel always surrounded by a group of friends, and 99% of the time he’s got a smile on his face.

That other 1 percent, though?  Let’s just say he’s left a path of destruction in his wake that has served the Bulldogs well over the last 4 years.

YSN’s Tim Figley caught up in a bit of a family reunion for this week’s East Palestine Player Profile: READY, WILLING, AND ABEL.

INSTA-GRAHAM

Columbiana Senior Jaden Graham has been known to show up when the Clippers are counting on him the most.  The standout defensive back has set the edge for the Clippers all season long and continues to show that the work he and his teammates have put into the offseason is paying off in 2018.

As the Clippers set up to battle in their season finale, our Mark Franken caught up with the speedster earlier this year to discuss what it’s like being able to have the weight of the world on his shoulders, and how he continues to come through time after time!
