ITS ALL AN EASE WITH PEASE

East Liverpool, Ohio – Senior year is a milestone filled with reflection and anticipation, emotions that East Liverpool High School basketball standout Cohen Pease knows all too well. In the recent interview with YSN the senior athlete shared his experiences and aspirations with host Anthony Hartwig.

Cohen Pease has been a dynamic force on the court for the Potters, and his dedication doesn’t go unnoticed. As he navigates his last basketball season wearing the Potter uniform, Pease emphasizes the camaraderie and mutual respect within his team. “We have a great senior group,” he notes fondly, referring to the significant contingent of eight or nine seniors who’ve been playing together since junior high. His dedication to the sport is evident in the rigorous offseason regimen he undertook, focusing on strength training and refining his skills to become a versatile, three-level player. “I put a lot of work in over the summer,” Pease shared. This relentless drive is not just for personal achievement but aims to cement the legacy of his senior class and inspire future generations of East Liverpool athletes.

Beyond the court, Pease’s leadership transcends into the classroom. Holding a commendable 3.6 GPA, he is as committed to his academic pursuits as he is to basketball. “Student first,” he emphasizes, mindful that excelling academically is crucial for his ambition to play college basketball. Looking ahead, Pease dreams of playing at the collegiate level, a goal he’s pursued since childhood. He seeks a college program that provides a “home-type of feel,” underscoring the importance of comfort and support in his next chapter. “Comfortability matters where you’re going,” he states, aptly encapsulating his future ambitions.

As Pease approaches his final days at East Liverpool, he’s proud of his achievements—both academic and athletic. Graduating with high honors and leaving a lasting impact on and off the court are among his proudest accomplishments. Reflecting on the mentorship he received from former players and the unwavering support from his family, especially his father, Pease is grateful and hopeful.

HUBBARD, OH – Senior standout Jillian Palumbo embodies the spirit of dedication and resilience, straddling multiple sports while excelling academically at Hubbard High School. Known for her tenacity on both the volleyball and basketball courts, Jillian offers a snapshot into her final year as an Eagle and the lessons she’s learned along the way.

Starting with her aspirations, Jillian revealed her disappointment from her final volleyball season served as a catalyst for a stronger basketball season. “I wanted to make sure I had a good final season,” she said. Determined to give her all, her leadership has been pivotal to the team’s strong 3-0 start. Jillian’s leadership isn’t just confined to game time; it extends to mentoring younger teammates, following the example of past seniors like Grace Narcom, Mary Frangos, and others. “I think letting everyone know where they need to be on the court and explaining to them that it’s okay to make mistakes is important,” she shared, reflecting on her journey from a nervous freshman to a seasoned senior leader.

Balancing volleyball, basketball, and eventually softball, Jillian acknowledges the challenges of rigorous schedules. Transitioning swiftly from volleyball to basketball without a break, she admits, “I’ve been told to give my body a break, but I immediately jump to the next sport to not miss any opportunity.” Academically, Jillian has navigated her senior year with relative ease, thanks to a lighter course load. “Everything else, I kind of went easy this year,” she stated, allowing more focus on her athletic pursuits while still maintaining strong grades.

Looking ahead, Jillian eyes Penn State Shenango, where she hopes to pursue volleyball and possibly basketball, with future ambitions to become a pharmacist. Reflecting on her journey as a Hubbard Eagle, Jillian expressed pride in representing her school across all sports seasons. “I’m proud to show our school that people can be three-sport athletes and be determined to do better.” As the season progresses, Jillian remains determined to lead her basketball team through a memorable final season before transitioning to spring sports. With her eyes set on collegiate athletics, Jillian’s story continues to inspire and set a high standard for future Hubbard Eagles.

CANFIELD, OH- Preston Tolnar, a nine-year-old golf prodigy from Canfield, is hitting headlines as he prepares to compete at Augusta National for the prestigious Drive, Chip and Putt contest. This remarkable talent, already the talk of the town, is set to represent Mill Creek Golf Course at this distinguished event.

Preston, a fourth grader at Canfield, has already accumulated seven years of golfing experience, beginning at the tender age of two. His journey has led him to the opportunity to showcase his skills at Augusta National, a dream for many in the golfing world. The competition, organized by the PGA of America, the United States Golf Association, and the Augusta National Golf Club, invites young golfers to display their prowess in driving, chipping, and putting.

Brian Tolnar, Preston’s father, commends the contest as a vital initiative to foster youth interest in golf. Preston devotes his time to practice after school, honing his skills both on the green and in the classroom, where he excels in science, social studies, and math. Besides his dedication to golf, Preston is a multi-sport athlete with a passion for basketball and football.

This exceptional young golfer, a Phil Mickelson enthusiast, is humbly looking forward to the upcoming contest at Augusta National. Preston’s family, along with his local community, eagerly anticipates his upcoming participation in the event, as they rally behind him, cheering for success and a memorable experience.

CANFIELD, OH- In the latest episode of “YSN’s South Range Football Coach’s Corner,”  DJ Yokley sits down with head football coach of the South Range Raiders, David Rach. With the theme of Thanksgiving in the air, the conversation takes an interesting turn as the two engage in a fantasy Thanksgiving draft, selecting their favorite holiday dishes.

Coach Rach surprises with his first pick, going for buttered noodles with gravy as his top choice. Meanwhile, DJ opts for a crowd favorite, fried turkey, as his first overall pick. The draft continues with Rach selecting deviled eggs and pickled eggs, emphasizing his love for unique and traditional holiday dishes. CANFIELD, OH-  South Range Raiders’ junior tight end, Heath Crouse, opened up about his experience playing for the esteemed high school football team and the impact of having a successful older brother, JD Crouse, who also excelled in the same position.

Crouse humbly expressed his admiration for his brother, stating that being in JD’s shadow is an honor as he has been an invaluable mentor and role model. He credits JD for helping him improve as a player and as a person. The tight-knit Crouse family has instilled in him a sense of greatness and the drive to always give his best, whether on the field or in his daily life.
