IZZY WILL MAKE YOU DIZZY WITH DEFENSE
AUSTINTOWN OH- No In volleyball the libero position is one where you need to bring a certain brand of toughness to the game. They are the rough and tough players that are more than willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of keeping the ball in the air. A position that brings a ton of importance but not always a ton of praise. Well get the flowers out and get ready to sing her name, because Fitch senior Izzy DiRenzo deserves all the accolades!
Starting the sport of volleyball in 7th grade, DiRenzo knew an exceptional amount of hard work and determination would be needed to play volleyball at the high school level. Practicing her craft nearly every single day since and DiRenzo has made herself one of the most difficult liberos to try to put the ball down on in the entire area. In her second year starting in the position, DiRenz has, once again, racked up over 300 digs in a season while compiling close to 200 receptions for the second straight year!
The skill to be a high school level libero did not come overnight, it was a process. Switching from outside hitter to libero was a big shift for DiRenzo, going from playing a ton of offense in JV to becoming the anchor on defense at the varsity level is no easy task, but DiRenzo has been more than up for the challenge.
Managing her time wisely, DiRenzo has been a star student in the classroom as well navigating through the daily challenges of being a modern day student-athlete. Of course she could not do it on her own, Izzy’s parents have been there from the jump and have always been her biggest support system through the ups and the downs.
