THE BLUEPRINT (VOL. 6)

LEAVITTSBURG, OH – When talking to the Labrae community and fans, the most common talking point is football. This passion and excitement surrounding the Vikings football team comes from a great program that is being built every week by Coach Armeni but also how the players believe in the team and themselves just as much as everyone else. This drive to succeed stems from great leadership on and off the field by many players within the LaBrae football family and one such leader is junior running back/defensive back, Devin Carter!

Devin has been on the varsity stage for three years but he has wasted no time showcasing his football talents as he is already LaBrae’s all time leading rusher! By proving his ability on the football field, Carter is able to lead by example but he is also an incredible teammate too. He is the first to give credit to everyone around him that helped him achieve his goals as an individual, such as his offensive linemen who create the holes and get great blocks to spring him free to pick up great yardage. Devin is also a great leader in the classroom and community, which is allowing him to create a buzz in the LaBrae area.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, had the opportunity to sit down with Devin this week via video chat to talk about his career so far as a Viking, what some of his goals are for this season as LaBrae is currently in the third round of the playoffs against Wickliffe, what his plans are for after high school, a rapid fire question session to learn some of the things that not many people know about himself, and much more!

Crestview moves on to host East Canton in the first round of the OHSAA tournament. The Rebels are the 1 seed in the Northeast 2 Bracket.

I’S ON THE PRIZE!

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – The Springfield Tigers have been said to be the most complete football team in the Mahoning Valley and that is due to the fact that they have returned a great class from their state finalist team from last season and are ready to make a run at the state championship again this season. This. Tigers team has been led by this senior class as they are one of the closest groups in terms of being together on and off the field. That strong bond has led to great success and has built a high powered offense for Coach Guerriero. This offense is star studded and one of those stars is tight end/wideout, Ethan Isaacson.

Ethan has a unique role on this offensive squad as he is utilized as a big receiver but also as a great blocking tight end. His 6’3″ frame is key down in the red zone as he is extremely tough to guard but that size also allows him to use his big wingspan and block multiple guys at once when needed. Not only is Isaacson a big part of the offense, he is also a presence on the defensive side of the football from his defensive end position. Isaacson has a knack for always knowing where the ball is and can use his speed and strength to really disrupt opposing offenses.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down via video chat with Ethan Isaacson this week to discuss the playoffs, what he thinks the Tigers need to do to replicate a post season run like last season but this time bring home the state title, what it has been like to be a Tiger during his football career, what his plans are for after high school, and much more!

Make sure to tune in to this exclusive interview with Springfield Tigers senior star, Ethan Isaacson!

WAGS TO RICHES

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – The Springfield Tigers are a team that many people in the Mahoning Valley think of when someone asks who the powerhouse is in the area. The reason for that is that the Tigers made it to the state finals last season, returned a very talented group of seniors this season, and are poised to repeat that success this season. One of those seniors is defensive tackle, Michael Wagner.

Wagner is one of the anchors on that defensive line for the Tigers that always seems to wreak havoc on their oppositions day in and day out. Michael prides himself on being a hard worker on the football field and in the classroom and because of that he is able to show the discipline and ability to dominate every week. This dominance can be seen in the stats also as he is one of the top tacklers for Springfield this season as he has totaled 33 tackles in 6 games from his defensive tackle position for an average of 5.5 tackles per game.

Not only is he a leader for this Tigers squad on the field with his play, he is also one of the vocal leaders for the team also as he is always able to pump up his defense and get them ready to make big plays all night long. He attributes his success to his teammates and always wants to put the team first before himself, which is exactly what you want to see in your star players from a coaching perspective.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to talk with Michael this week via video chat to get his thoughts about the football season so far, what his goals are the rest of the season, what it has been like to be a Springfield Tiger during his football career, what his plans are for after college, a rapid fire question session about some things people might not know about him, and much much more!
