RAIDERS DEFENSE PRESERVES STREAK, RANGE WINS BIG OVER CCC

CANTON, OH- The Raiders came into week 3 on a high note, just coming off a shut out win over one of their rivals, Crestview. But Canton Central Catholic was going to be a big test for the Raiders. Both teams came into this week 1-1. And both teams were coming off shut outs the week before. The Crusaders had a high powered passing game to deal with. Quarterback Austin Beck had thrown for nearly 700 yards in the first 2 weeks. But the Raiders were ready for it. The Raiders took the opening drive right down the field and scored on a 19-yard crossing route. Isaac Allegretto threw a strike to Junior wideout Luke Crumbacher for the 19 yr score.

The Crusaders would take their shot at the ball and drive down the field against the Raiders to end the first quarter. To start the second quarter the Crusaders would get the ball all the way down to the half-yard line before quarterback Beck would get stepped on by one of his linemen and fumbled the exchange into the end zone where the Raiders recovered.  The Raiders would take the ball and drive down the field for another score when Allegretto would bootleg in for his first of 2 touchdown runs for the evening.

The Raiders would end the first half with another score when Allegretto hit Senior wideout Ian Toy for a 25-yard TD. Raiders were up 19-0 at half time due to a missed extra point and a failed 2 point conversion. CCC would try to mount a comeback in the second half but their opening drive was stopped on a fumble when Toy came on a blitz and hit Beck from behind forcing a fumble. The Raiders drove the ball all the way down to the 4-yard line when Isaac threw a perfect fade route to the corner for wideout Chris Brooks.

South Range would add a late touchdown when Allegretto would run for his second TD late in the forth. The Raiders defense was the true shining star this evening. The D forced 2 fumbles and 3 interceptions and pitched the shut out. CCC had some success running and throwing early, but the Raider D tightened up when CCC got into the red zone. The Crusaders reached the red zone 5 times during the game and came away with no points. The Raiders didn’t have to worry about Friday the 13th tonight because they were the ones to be scared of this evening!

The Raiders start league play next week as they travel to Poland to battle the Bulldogs.

ONE FOR THE BROOKS, RAIDERS BLANK REBS

CANFIELD, OH- The Raiders looked to get their season back to even ground in Week 2, and it took 3 plays to touch the painted surface as Patrick McCabe romped 83 yards to put South Range on top where they would stay and eventually win 42-0 over Crestview.

The Rebels (0-2) had a difficult time containing the Raider offense that racked up 302 yards on the night, but were highlighted by three touchdown passes between Isaac Allegretto and Chris Brooks.  Sophomore, Dylan Dominguez had nine carries for 99 yards and a pair of scores as well.

Sophomore Rebel QB, Anthony Cusick, went 10/20 for 121 yards and an interception.  On the ground, Junior Ethan Powell had 13 rushes for 41 yards.

GIRARD SURVIVES SCARE, ADVANCE UNBEATEN

GIRARD, OH- Girard wins 29 to 23 in a hard-fought game from both teams.  Girard made a few mistakes early with 4 turnovers allowing West Branch to take a 9 point lead in the third quarter but led by Jimmy Jones, Drew Delgarbino and some crucial plays from Nick Malito the Indians were able to come back and win 29-23.

Much like last season, Girard has proved to be a second-half team and with this high powered offense will prove to be a force in the league as long as they can eliminate the turnovers.

The Indians are now on a collision course with Warren JFK next Saturday on the road.  That game will be streamed on YSN.

ALL EYES ON ISAAC

When South Range took the field to begin the 2019 campaign last week, there were many skeptics outside the campus of South Range about what this team could bring to the table.  Last Friday the Raider team gave Springfield all it could handle in regulation before falling in overtime.  South Range proved that this could be another big year at Raider Stadium.

However, it was the leadership, maturity, and body language of the South Range signal-caller that left so many impressed despite the loss.

A young man who has grown up before our very eyes to become the leader of young men in the locker room, the huddle, and now looks to be a mentor off the field.

We caught up with the multi-sport athlete who is looking for another captivating year on the field to further impress recruiters at the next level in this week’s South Range Player Profile: ALL EYES ON ISAAC.

FEED THEM MO, GIRARD ROUTES BULLDOGS TO BEGIN CAMPAIGN

EAST PALESTINE, OH- It’s a new era in both East Palestine, and Girard as far as their football teams are concerned.  With the departures of several seniors on both sides, the two teams gave a look of what the season may hold.  For one side, it’s a reloading year, while the other may be looking to rebuild around their youth.  Girard started the game with purpose and poise and kept that pace throughout a 60-0 route of East Palestine at Reed Memorial Stadium on Friday.

Girard posted up 27 points in the first quarter alone, keyed by a 74-yard TD reception by Toledo recruit, Nick Malito who finished his night with 100 yards on 3 catches.  Andrew DelGarbino led the offensive attack behind center throwing for a pair of touchdowns and 130 yards while going 4/6 with a pick in abbreviated time.  On the ground, Morgan Clardy led the way on five rushes stacking up 158 yards with two trips to the endzone including a 76-yard rush to start the game.

For East Palestine, Dominick Cathers went 8/22 for 71 yards and an interception through the air.  The leading Bulldog receiver was Dalton Vance with a pair of receptions for 37 yards.

The Bulldogs (0-1) will look to rebound against MVAC opponent, Western Reserve while Girard will make their 2019 home debut against West Branch.  Both games can be heard on YSN.

SOUTH RANGE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH DAN YEAGLEY

The constant for South Range over the last 25 years on the sidelines has been their fearless, and humble leader, Dan Yeagley.  After passing his milestone 200th victory in 2018, Coach Yeagley and the Raiders have their eyes firmly set on returning to Week 11 in 2019.

Raider Football may have a different feel to it this time around, as the Raiders will have to adjust to their roster, and not rely solely on four yards and a cloud of dust.  This team is as athletic as they’ve been in some time, and boast numbers at the senior level that many area schools are envious of with 14 seniors suiting up.

Will the Raiders bounce back from 2018?  What keeps Coach Yeagley on the sidelines?

Find out all that and more on this week’s South Range Football Coach’s Corner with Dan Yeagley.
