CRESTVIEW CONTINUES MVAC WIN STREAK

COLUMBIANA OH- Crestview has been the definition of dominant in the MVAC over the years. They are on a 65 match win streak, and in those matches they’ve only lost one set.  It was a quick sweep over Campbell on Tuesday that gave them win 65.

Abbey Emch continues to lead the offense as she grabbed 15 kills on the night. She also served up 7 aces.  Grace Auer completed a double double with 11 kills and 11 assists.  She also grabbed 5 digs on the night. Lainy Auer also finished with 11 assists, and she added 5 kills to the offense.  The Auer sisters combined for 10 aces. They both got 5.

Crestview has a big matchup up next as they welcome in Garfield with first place on the line in the MVAC. Campbell will also move forward in the league on Thursday as they host Liberty.

CAMPBELL HANGS ON FOR THEIR FIRST WIN

EAST PALESTINE OH- The East Palestine Bulldogs pushed Campbell Memorial to the very end last night at Reid Memorial Stadium.

East Palestine got on the scoreboard first with an Owen Jurjavcic 4-yard touchdown, putting the Bulldogs up 6-0. Then Campbell took their turn and scored 21 unanswered points to take a 21-6 lead. The Bulldogs were not discouraged as Noah McKay from the Wildcat position scored the next touchdown and two-point conversion to bring them within one score.

The Bulldogs were driving one more time when the Red Devils broke up a pass play to seal the game with a 21-14 win. East Palestine finished with 11 first downs and 205 total yards compared to Campbell’s 12 first downs and 194 yards.

East Palestine will host Leetonia next week at home, while Campbell will host Crestview.

RED DEVILS FINISH STRONG

CAMPBELL OH- Wednesday night volleyball action had the Campbell Memorial Red Devils (2-3) defending home court against the (3-2) Sebring Trojans who are in the midst of a three-game road stand. This was a non-conference exhibition between members of the MVAC Scarlet and Gray Tiers.

Set one was led entirely by the Red Devils who jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before Sebring got on the board. Sebring was led most of the night by their kills leader No. 1 Blake Thomas who had some absolutely lethal spikes on the night. Thomas helped lead her squad back into a competitive set one that stayed around a three-point score difference after the initial Red Devils lead. Campbell would find the momentum around the midway point and cruise home to victory in set one 25-13.

Set two was much closer as Sebring jumped on the board quickly scoring the first point, but they were answered immediately by Campbell who quickly returned the favor. This was a seesaw battle in set two in which neither squad was able to seize momentum. The two teams kept within one or two points and forced it to a tied game at 23 each before Campbell made some great plays to close out the second set of the night.

Set three was what would be called a volleyball clinic as Campbell could do no wrong being led by their kills leader No. 12 Kendall Brunn who not only added on to her kills total in this third set but was dominating with blocks at the net as well. Campbell would go up by a dozen before Sebring had their first point of the set and from their it was lights out. Campbell would allow just one more point in the set and would take home their third and final set of the night 25-2 over Sebring.

Both teams moved to (3-3) on the season after this game. All of Campbell’s wins this season have come on 3-0 wins at home. They will play host to Champion Thursday night at 6:30PM. Sebring will finish off their three-game road stand against Mineral Ridge Thursday night at 6:30PM.

ROCKETS KEEP PUTTING ON A SHOW

CAMPBELL OH- Lowellville’s offense lived up to their high flying reputation on Friday night in Campbell. Before the Red Devils knew what hit them, the Rockets were on the scoreboard.  It was all Lowellville in a 50-14 rout.

Vinny Ballone was his same old self dazzling the crowd with a show.  Ballone finished with seven total touchdowns.  It brings his season total already to 14. Brady Bunofsky was Ballone’s favorite target finishing with 194 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.

Lowellville will travel to South Central in Week 3. Campbell will look for their first win in a matchup with East Palestine.

RED DEVILS GET BACK TO WINNING

CAMPBELL OH-  Wednesday night volleyball action saw the Red Devils of Lordstown visiting the Red Devils of Campbell Memorial in an early season matchup. Lordstown came out of the gates with the first point of the game, gaining the only advantage they would have all night long. After getting the first point, Lordstown surrendered the next to Campbell who would then take the ball and get off to a 6-1 start in the first set thanks to some excellent serves from #27 Angeliz Diaz and some sensational spikes from the Red Devils leading lady #12 Kendall Brunn. Campbell continued to extend their lead pushing ahead by double-digits before Lordstown would close the deficit to under five. Campbell narrowly took the first set 25-19.

The first set was the closest of the night. Mistakes and miscommunications sealed Lordstown’s fate on the night as they would go on to score just 11 points as #4 Cyra Cross and #7 Kayla Coleman-Clark took control of the offense along with #12 Kendall Brunn dominating this second set. They would go on to take it 25-11. Set 3 didn’t go Lordstown’s way either as they were held under 10 points for the majority of the set before Campbell let of the gas with a 24-10 point lead surrendering 5 straight to Lordstown before finally closing the third set 25-15.

Campbell claims a 2-1 record to start the early season and will host the Garfield Lady G-Men on Thursday. Lordstown falls to 0-2 and have still yet to win a set on the season. They will stay on the road and take on the Bristol Bears on Thursday.

BROOKFIELD PULLS OFF HUGE COMEBACK

CAMPBELL OH- Brookfield coming off their district runner up season found themselves in a early hole against Campbell. Facing a 2-0 deficit in the match, the Warriors rattled off 3 sets in a row to win the match in 5.  (21-25 21-25 25-13 27-25 15-12)

Lauren Shingledecker put together a great night with 15 kills.  Calley Wellman also contributed to the Warriors with 8 kills. Alexa Lindholm chipped in 6 kills.  Zoe Steele ran their offense well with 37 assists on the night.  Shingledecker completed a double double with 14 digs.  Katie Logan led the defense with 21 digs.  Alexia Baker added 18 digs.

Kendall Brunn had a great day for Campbell finishing with 17 kills.  Angeliz Diaz was also in double figures with 10 kills.  Cyra Cross got herself 8 kills.  Carla Ramirez-Ortiz set up the offense all night with 33 assists.  She also led the defense with 21 digs and got herself a double double.

Brookfield will be back in action on Thursday as they host Liberty.  Campbell returns to action on Wednesday as they host Lordstown.

NOTHING STOPS RED DEVILS IN SEASON OPENER

CAMPBELL OH- Excitement is building in Campbell for their volleyball program. The Red Devils return a lot of experience from last season. They got started on the right foot as they easily swept Valley Christian (25-8 25-9 25-13)

Kendall Brunn finished with double digit kills to lead the Red Devils.  She collected 14 kills.  Angeliz Diaz contributed 6 kills.  Diaz also served up 8 aces on the day.  Brunn added a block to her stat line.

Campbell returns to action Tuesday as they open up league play with a tough Brookfield team at home.  Start time is set for 7:00.

VALLEY SOARS HIGH IN WEEK ONE

CAMPBELL OH- Andy Hake and the Valley Christian Eagles came out victorious in their first game of the season in the battle of John KnapickField. They took down their in-stadium rival Campbell Memorial 47-7. Andy Hake now moves to 8-3 as head man of the Eagles while Andrew King falls to 1-10 with Campbell.

 

The game started out well for Campbell as David Moore was finding his receivers well going 3/6 on the first drive before stalling out after they crossed the 50. Valley Christian would then get the ball on the Campbell side of the 50 thanks to a low snap forcing the Campbell punter Anthony Kindinis to accidentally place his knee on the ground prior to the punt. Valley capitalized off of the momentum driving it 44 yards on the ground and scoring the first touchdown of the season.

 

Campbell’s defense kept Valley Christian in check for the entirety of the first half allowing only 14 points, forcing Valley to be 1/9 on third down, and holding the V.C. passing game to 2/6. One of the two completions came on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Jhordan Peete to VeShun Gurley with less than a minute to go in the half after Campbell turned the ball over on downs at midfield.

 

The second half is where Valley took control of the game posting 26 of their 47 points. A 1-yard TD run by Ja’SeanLindsey setup by back-to-back Gurley receptions to put them in the redzone would open the scoring in the second half. Campbell answered right back with a 27-yard touchdown pass from David Moore which would end up as their only score of the night. V.C. got the ball at their own ten and immediately struck big as the 6’4 beast Jon’Trell Mixon took the entire defense with him as he took the ball 78 yards on one play out of the wildcat. Penalties backed Valley up before Jhordan Peete wheeled out to his left and found Gurley in the endzone for another touchdown. Valley’s defense then got their name called on one of the biggest plays of the game as Jon’Trell Mixon out of his defensive end spot would jump into the air and steal a bullet pass from David Moore out of the air and return it for a pick-six which would just about seal the game in the third quarter.

 

Campbell Memorial looked sound on both sides of the ball in the first half, but they were unable to keep pace with the incredible athletes on the side of Valley Christian. A great effort from both teams created a lopsided, but entertaining game to watch. Valley Christian will hit the road next Friday to take on the (0-1) Vikings of LaBrae. Meanwhile Campbell will play host again next week as the (1-0) Rockets of Lowellville come to town.

CAMPBELL VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH TYLER ALLEN

CAMPBELL OH- There is excitement brewing in Campbell around their volleyball program. The players that make up the team are developing a winning culture. After earning a tournament win a year ago, confidence has gone way up. They are returning plenty of talent from last year’s team, and with a small number of seniors Campbell promises to not just be a contender this season, but in the future as well.

Campbell head coach Tyler Allen is pouring all the energy he has into the program which is the reason why his players have bought in. Coach Allen came on YSN’s Running Point this week to give us a clear picture of outlook of the season. He talks with Ty Bartell and Anthony Hartwig about his team’s winning mentality, what it means to him to coach this team, and much more. It’s almost volleyball season, make sure you’re ready with Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Tyler Allen.

OLENICK PAVES THE WAY FOR RED DEVILS WIN

CAMPBELL OH- Dom Olenick was the definition of dominant on Tuesday night as he led the way for Campbell in a season opening 6-2 victory. Olenick scored all 6 of the Red Devils goals.

Campbell will return to action Thursday as they host Liberty.  East Palestine returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Heartland Christian.
